More correctly, HOWLING at 1300 miles. I have 32,000 on it now
it does it from 27-69mph, and at steady state 27mph it will wake the dead.
Add 140 hp and a manual transmission = recipe for disaster. |

I got that issue and it's quite interesting. I'm going to try and get that actual GM Document. If I do, I will definitely post it here and pass it along to whoever wants a copy.

Cuz whatever equation or mathematical profit-based formula they're using, even though average failure rates, warranty period, mileage, yadayadayada may have all been accounted for, they certainly forgot to consider the largest factor as far as any business is concerned - all those future customers they have alienated and henceforth lost. Simple economics? Eh, I call it bad economics and just plain bad business. Stupid ass corporations. Suck my nana. Whatever the hell that means. Suck it. |
+1
i came from owning an e46 m3 to my 04 ctsv.
and though i love this car, given my experiences with the diff, and with the dealership, i can't say that i'll ever care to purchase another gm product again. it's my first, and i believe it may be my last. |

I did not read all posts as I'm at work. But I will be trading in my V in the near future. I was considering a STS-V. But I went to a new dealer, my old one closed (New Orleans), and they basically told me that the clunk in the diff/drivetrain is normal. So I'm waiting for the new Audi S5 or I might go to BMW, Benz. I sure did luv my V, to bad GM is to busy to fix or admit their mistakes. I guess my only assembled American car will be the Corvette. Till GM finds a way to screw that up.. |

Here is the email.
Dear Cadillac STS/CTS owners,
Here at ODI (Office of Defects Investigations) at the USDOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) we have received complaints on the rear differential issues. I am currently gathering information on this and I would like to receive pictures of broken/cracked/leaking rear differentials. Some of you also claimed that this issue led to half shafts cracking. If you have pictures of broken half shafts, please send them as well. Please reply to my email and attach the pictures digitally. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

Article from GM High-Tech Performance--CTS-V Differential!! Yes, I got that E-mail today. I replyed that even though I did not have any pictures of my differential failure, the dealer replaced it under warrantee at approx 23K miles, due to a rapidly increasing whine and "rattle". I also thanked him (them) for pursuing this most grevious fault in this otherwise excellent vehicle, and asked that he contact me if I could be of any other help on this issue. |
