My main reason was due to a medical condition (my left hip didn't like pushing in the clutch 100+ times in heavy traffic. I was also concerned about the rear dif since my first one was replaced at 1700 miles, and second was whining around 6k. I sold it with 15k and it was whining like crazy once warmed up. The dealer gave me some flak when I mentioned that the rear end was whining again. He said you must have broken it in wrong, I'll need to get the DSM involved, I must drive the car hard because my tires almost need replacing at 12k and I had the bushing TSB done, etc. I was real disappointed at some quality issues with the car (3 year old nav disk that couldn't be updated at that time, unless you wanted to stay in Michigan), interior parts flying off, factory alignment problems, etc. However I did love driving the V (when it wasn't in the shop).
Well Cadillac, I'm considering returning once I can afford the V as a weekend driver. However, if that current V has rear end issues, forget it. I'm not going to put up with that crap again. We will never see a recall on the 04/05 V because it is not a safety issue (like the Vette's roof panels) and Cadillac doesn't want the bad press. Although they are getting it anyways.
Well, I just wanted to give my 2 cents on this issue and also say hi to the members from that time frame (CTSV05, Florian are two that I remember).
Best of luck to those with rear dif problems. |

It seems this is really GMs attempt to avoid a rather substantial recall. They'd rather piecemeal the replacement rather than admit there's an inherent flaw. This fact, combined with cretin dealerships that fight legitimate warranty claims causes the loss of consumer confidence in the product.
They think they’re winning the battle by saving a buck but are really losing the war in the marketplace. |

I am an educated buyer, financially able to purchase most any vehicle I would like. For my latest purchase, I did not choose a Ford, a Dodge, a BMW, a Mercedes, or any other import; I chose a General Motors Cadillac CTS-V.
I buy a new car, on average, every 2 years. For the past 18 years I have purchased only GM vehicles (easily verified by your customer databases I'm sure).
Let's work together to ensure on the 19th year I do not finally buy that import.

Article from GM High-Tech Performance--CTS-V Differential!! Does anyone think GM Brass gets around to these forums; they have to right??? Well I hope they're listening because in my opinion since I've been on this forum this is the most important thread yet. I did a little research on our friend Rick Jensen (the author of the article) and wouldn't you know it, he works out of their NY office. After some more googling I found out that they're supposive NY office had a 201 area code which is actually Jersey; North Jersey. I wound up finding a phone number with extension to our friend Rick Jensen but even more ironically the office is in the town next to where I live ( Saddle Brook NJ!!!!!) I'm not sure how I'm going to approach this yet but one thing can surely be said, this is far from over. Work is crazy, I'll try to get on this by at least tomorrow. So GM if you're listening ( ), we're not going away!!

Article from GM High-Tech Performance--CTS-V Differential!! I don't drive a V, but from the average Joe point of view, you V drivers got screwed. The thing that makes me madder than anything is that GM hasn't admitted any wrong-doing, even though they know a completely stock V can and will destroy the factory diff. Now why they haven't taken the steps to correct their mistakes might be explainable through simple business economics, but it falls far short of any ethical behavior or any long-term relationship building. GM might be making a few dollars now by not recalling the V's, but they're hurting their customer base more than anything by not even admitting fault. As much as I'd love to own a V, I'd be very nervous about having one, because when (not if) my diff fails, I know that neither GM or my local dealership will try to correct the problem honestly and ethically. I used to hate BMW and Chrysler, but I don't hear about the differentials going on their vehicles, even the vehicles that are modded. |

Everytime I read this thread my blood boils. I finally found a car I really loved and could see myself owning thsi one for a very very long time.
I'm now on the verge of going with a Jeep GC SRT8. This was my first attempt ever with the General after a long relationship with Fords. My wife and I were seriously considering getting her a new SS Trailblazer. NOT ANYMORE.
I really hope GM big whigs are browsing these boards, becuase I am letting them know that they have lost a first time consumer as fast as they gained one. |

Article from GM High-Tech Performance--CTS-V Differential!! Holmes 815, if you decide to make a little visit to Mr. Jensen. I'm not the biggest guy, CTSV05 will vouch for that, but I live in Jersey as well, and Saddle River is like a 30 min drive which I will be happy to take to meet this guy on behalf of us. I doubt we would beable to persuade him to release it, but maybe discuss or someting along those lines. |

Yeah, I'm a first time GM buyer after a long run of Honda products. Can you imagine walking into the shitstorm the CTS-V is after solid reliability of a Honda?
Granted, my V is my 2nd domestic vehicle ever; my first was a '03 Dodge Ram 1500 Quadcab with the Hemi. I drove it for 35k miles in two years and had 0 problems, 0 reason to take it into the dealer for service. I kept gas in it, changed the oil and kept air in the tires. Aside from the occasional car wash, I had no elbow grease expended on that, and everyone told me that Dodges were trash.
My V, however, has been nothing but bad for me aside from when I'm driving it. It's like a trophy wife who still knows how to bang your brains out, but she's got a bad hip and her wig keeps falling off. And my mother-in-law still treats me like shit. And in case you haven't caught my meaning: Bad hip = bad diff, wig = sail panels and my bitch of a MIL is the General.
Seriously, has anyone ever had this much trouble out of any of their other cars of any manufacture? |

Alright, here is my question, what are the first symptoms of Diff failure? I have owned my v for about a month (05 w/45000 miles) and have finally taken the car out for some highway time during which I have made it up to 6th gear. That is when I hear noise (dull whining almost like it is bogging down) from the rear end. 80+ mph in 6th gear. Put it in 5th and I hear nothing abnormal from the rear. I doubt the dealer would replace it based on that at this time but also would hate for it to let loose and leave me stranded before I could get it fixed.

The current production run of CTS-V's (04-06) will go down in automotive history as the car that almost was. It's a 90% car, almost there, but not quite. It's hard to believe that they went into production given the fact that they knew the diff was under-rated, never mind the wheel hop issues. Yea, it's not your Grandfathers Cadillac, he wouldn't want it nor put up with its shortfalls.
I hope no-one gets injured when their diff locks up, or worse.
GM phucked us big time with the V. Now we're stuck with a car that has known diff issues which in turn hurts resale. Way to go GM and thanks a bunch Get-Rag.
Guess what GM? My current list of recently purchased vehicles are: two Honda Accords and a Ford F250 SD Diesel. Don't see any GM in there do ya? That's over $110,000 of my money that you didn't get. Are you listening?????? I went from all GM in the Garage to only one, the V. I'd sell it too, but don't want to take the friggen price hit.
