Due to a aquisition I expect in the next few days, the Navigation flash/firmware DVD will be available to all CTS-V/ CTS owners. Few points of clarity:
This is NOT an updated Map dvd. This disc will update the bios firmware on your dvd system allowing you to USE updated discs (from cadillac, zenrin, etc). It will also get rid of the "stuck in michigan" issue that some had with updated discs.
The update is provided AT YOUR OWN RISK. You apparently can mess up your nav system if you dont do the update correctly. So if you mess up your nav system cause you didnt follow directions, its on YOU!
This is not a illegal disc or pirate firmware. It is the actual Cadillac firmware for this nav system distributed by cadillac.
We are not violating any copyright laws as we are not copying the material, and presumably, everyone is entitled to the system firmware update (E-mail me if you disagree). We are NOT sending you a copy of the disc, just sending you a disc to update the firmware, and then you MUST to mail it back (see below)
Here is what is required:
1. You must e-mail me (ctsvett@verizon.net) with the subject "nav firmware dvd". Include your name, forum name, mailing address, and phone number.
2. You will be required to pay for shipping/postage and place a deposit on the disc in case you do not return it (the deposit may be as high as $200 to secure the DVD- we have to replace it if you dont send it back). All payment will be made via paypal (if your paypal address is different than the e-mail you send from, include that in the e-mail to me as well!).
3. If you are not a donater to the FAQ or if you are not a supporting member on this forum, you may not want to send me an e-mail (I will be happy to explain why that is if someone wants to know).
We will be making a list of those interested in this flash and sending the disc around according to a priority list that we will make.
The disc will ship to the first person once we receive it (fingers crossed by the early next week).
As usual my Caddy dealer knows nothing about this and they want to swap out my nav system to fix my 'Stuck in MI' issue. I don't want them too becuase I fear for how they might screw this up and the new noises my nav system will make.
I have personally tried the Infiniti 6.3, 6.4 and am running the 6.5 version in my 2005 CTS-V. This is after the CD ROM update. Both the 7.2 version and the 6.5 version have a release date of November, 2006. I had won a 7.2 version on eBay, but the seller renegged and I got my money back. I'll try to win another 7.x version cheap and try it out and report back.
Weird... today my Nav seemingly froze up... pushing the NAV buton did nothing (although the system did know that it was no longer on BAND because the tunning knob did not change the channels)...
Then I got a message saying "Not a valid disc" (or something along those lines)...
I ejected the disc, re-inserted it, and it gave me the "Agree" splash screen. When I hit "Agree" it froze and would not go into the Nav at all. I turned the car off and back on again... same thing...
Weird...
So I keep on driving, get about 10 minutes down the road, hit "NAV" again, and it works?!? Weird...
Not sure if anyone else has had this type of problem with a burned 6.5 disc in their Nav... Anyone?
heavymetals suggestion is a good one. I have seen DVDs exhibit all kinds of weird behavior simply because of a heavy finger print on the bottom surface of the DVD. Cleaning the surface frequently solves many problems. Be aware that CDs and DVDs are written from the center out. As a result, startup problems are usually associated with stuff near the hub of the disc.
If I just got a new navigation radio put in under warranty should it already have the latest firmware version? Also I was unable to change the state from Michigan when entering a destination and the dealer ordered me a new nav DVD...does this sound right?
Heavy, Any chance you can help me out with my 2007 STS V8 Nav system. I messed around with the diagnostic menu and pushed the "S/W update" button and the screen locked on; "CAUTION, cannot load system software. Disc type incorrect. Please incert System Disc." I have no Nav, no cd, no radio, or car menu. The dealer here in Columbus, MS wants to charge me $375.00 for the system update disc and $150.00 for labor. Any help would be appreciated. I will gladly pay shipping both ways for a disc that you think will work to reboot my system.
I have a flash disk, if anyone is still looking or if heavy needs a replacement for one not returned. I'll gladly send it to whomever would like it. I just got a new Nav disc from Cadillac (came with the flash) because I bought my '05 V as a "certified" used car. Everyone here is talking about version 6.x or 7.x, but the one they sent me is marked version 6.0 and is GM part #25813528. Is it any better or different than Version 6.0 Q4 02 part # 25766899? Which, by the way is also available if anyone needs it.
your will spoil the sense of trust and community that has been built here... Thats why I was willing to "insure" these discs initially... Heavy is the man for taking the lead on this and you DONT want to make him angry...
If they don't show up, I'd be happy to send mine along....Just PM me with an address. Since I'm a new owner, I haven't had a chance to contribute much, but I can start with this.
I can't send a PM yet, not enough posts.....It'll go out tomorrow. On my NAV disk, I just got it from Cadillac and it is marked as version 6.0 copyright 2006, is this the current version? see post #83
I have been reading through this thread, interesting topic. I have an 06-V, not sure what version it has or what years the update is good for. I ended up picking up the car used and did not receive the DVD for the NAV. I have been waiting for the dealer to order me one and they have not yet. I was planning to go on the web and order myself one but reading this I am wondering if I will have issues when I try and load it? Do they send the BIOS disk with the NAV disk?
Thanks for the info, I just updated my information, I will let you know if they do anything for me. If not, I appreciate your the offer to help out!!!
