    Re: Navigation system update (firmware)

My dealer flashed my NAV just by asking them.. they seem reasonably cool compared to a lot that I've read around here, but it might not hurt to ask especially if people still have a warranty. Skips the need to ship back and forth and wait for your turn in line to come up.

    Re: Navigation system update (firmware)

There is no waiting in line.

If the dealer knows what they are doing (navigation/radio wise) and has the flash CD, they should and do update for free.

Generally, that is not the case.

Heavy: So true, my dealer has been exceptionally cool with me so I guess I expect better than what most can get.

    Re: Navigation system update (firmware)

SO I can either order to 07 CTSV disc from GM NavDisc, or get the firmware update and get other newer maps?
My city is growing so I don't know if an 07 disc is sufficient.

Let me know about the Firmware update, I am in Canada.

    Thanks

    Re: Navigation system update (firmware)

Ok...I'm trying to figure out if I need to do this firmware update. I've got an 04 cts-v. I'm planning on buying the updated nav disc form GM NavDISC in the next month. I don't have any problems entering locations or getting "stuck in Michigan". Do I need to go ahead and flash it anyways? What benefit will I get out of it if I'm not having any problems? I did some reading in this thread but 20 pages is alot.

    Re: Navigation system update (firmware)

My understanding is the firmware update will allow one to use other discs beside the GM ones. Correct me if needed.

    Re: Navigation system update (firmware)

The firmware update fixes a bug.

The only other nav disc (that I know of )that will work is Zenrin 6.X series, 6.6 being the most current.

Cadillac nav discs are not compatible across platforms (meaning they won't even work in other Cadillac models).

If your car had is an 04 or early 05 then yes.

The way to find out is to insert the map disc and see if you can enter a destination outside of Michigan.
