Another Diff Problem

Everyone has probably already addressed this before, But I'm gonna ask anyway. Are the dealerships replacing the old diffs with the better '06 normally? and are they holding up any better ? , Are there any tsb's out there that I should check on that would affect this?, How long they been keeping our V's for this?
Just got my '05 yesterday at noon and lost the diff at 8pm and I miss it already

Re: Another Diff Problem

You should get the newest Diff, 06 model as a replacement. Even though the 07 is out, as far as we know the Diff is the same. It's "supposed" to be better than the 04/05 one, but some on here have already eaten through those as well.

Re: Another Diff Problem

Any difference between an 06 and 07 rear diff?

The piece or s#$t rear has taken a lot of fun out of this car. Want so bad to take my new V to the track and have some fun, but I figure that is a great way to get to know my local service writer real well.

Damn, I’m even scared to do a mild hole shot on the street. Please Cadillac come up with a fix for the rear!!!

Re: Another Diff Problem

I don't believe there is any difference between the 06 & 07.

I had an 04 and pushed it hard (maggied car that occasionally sees the track). It had a mild whine at multiples of 43 mph (43, 86, er...) and was ultimately replaced under warranty for an 06. My whine was not nearly as pronounced as I've seen others describe here on the forum. I did twist one of the cv joints on the half shaft going to the passengers tire (inboard I think). This too was replaced under warranty.

The 06 has been flawless. The only issue I've had since installing the 06 is a "clunk" that has been corrected and returned to be corrected again by the dealer. I asked for a detailed description from the tech this time to see how he fixed it and it was simply the pinion mounting bolt that attaches the diff to the cradle coming loose. I'm considering a BMR pinion support (or a DIY version of the same) to make this stop.

The 08's will have a very different rear diff which I believe will be common to the 08 STS-V and 08 XLR-V.
