Hey veteran V owners need some clarification. I have about 5,000 miles on my 07 V and I notice that the shifter lever pulsates or moves far more than any other shifter I have ever used. I have been driving manual shift cars for the past 20 years and I have never noticed a shifter that transmits as much movement as the one in my V. Is this normal, possibly a byproduct of the 2 piece driveshaft or all the isolating bushings in the drive train?
The pulsation is especially noticeable when the car has just been started, say for the first 2 miles or so.
Love the V however, awesome car!

| | Cadillac Owners Connoisseur | | | | | Re: Is this normal????? As I was driving this morning, I also noticed that, when in neutral, the shifter does vibrate a lot. That is, when you look at the shifter stalk in neutral (without your hand resting on it) it will dance and jiggle around quite a bit. When your hand is resting on the shifter, it will transmit some vibration, but it's nothing too egregious. It's probably normal. As long as you don't find yourself wrestling the little bugger while idling in neutral, I'd say you're okie dokey. |

I frequently hold onto the shifter while driving, anticipating my next shift and that is when I feel the movement, or pulsating. If I drive while not holding the shifter and glance over at the shifter, I can clearly see the movement that I notice while holding onto the shifter.
As far as noise, I do hear a bit of gear noise, but nothing too offensive, I assume it is due to the cut of the gears in the T56, remember all the noise you got out of an M22 trans? |

Probably not related to your problem.. But, check your clutch fluid level.. As the clutch wears in from new it goes down.. When i checked mine it was almost empty. It will take you only a few seconds of your time to check it, and top it off. Again, probably not related to your problem, but worth doing... Especialy if you've been driving her hard. |

This is my THIRD car with a 6 spd T-56 tranny. One was a Vette, one was a Cobra, and the most recent is the V. There is one and only one thing that each have in common...VIBRATION
To answer your question, it is 100% normal for the shifter to vibrate/pulsate while in gear. Each one of these cars did the same thing. It really has to do with the T-56 mounting and shifter proximity to the clutch assembly. One thing that does help is to add a rubber gasket or rtv gasket maker to the base where the shifter connects to the trans, but that entails removing the shifter and will only reduce the vibration and not eliminate it. I would just consider it normal and brag to your friends that it shows how much power you have on its way to the wheels!!! |

P.S. THIS MEANS I DEFINITELY NEED MORE POWER! |

Yea, does not seem to be anything broken per say, just more movement then I am used to. The ZF in my Vette is rock solid!
Most of the pulsating I get in the V is in 1st – 3rd gear, and mostly when the trans is cold, no big deal!
Thanks to all who replied
By the way, I definitely need way more power! Can you ever have enough??? |

I don't own a V (ive got a lowly V6 CTS ), so this is word of mouth. My dad has a V, and his next door neighbour has a Vette, C5 6spd with some work. And according to my old man, both trannies shake in gear. The V especially, but its stock, and the guys C5 has a different shifter. So, just echoing what everyone else said.
Just curious, what is the ZF tranny? Am I right in guessing its new on the C6? |

Mine is a 92 blackrose with AFR 195 heads, ZZ9 cam, Comp cams valve train, SLP coated headers and exhaust and lots of EFI programing, be glad the CTS's are not speed density EFI cars! My vette Runs 12.5’s at 114mph, shifter does not move an inch!
Good luck with your CTS! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
