A guy I know with a GT3, 996 and a 911 Turbo that SWEARS by them, but he also sells them so..... They are tested by a local cop friend for radar and laser effectiveness. http://k40.com/home_main.html
How about the Blinder system? | Yeah, you can't win. Ask a question....do a search/check the FAQ. Do a search and need some more info....why'd you drag up that ancient thread?
I was looking for a "hidden" system for my V and almost bought the K40. A local audio shop sells and installs them. I did some research and the reviews weren't so good. Outdated was the recurring theme. This was a couple years ago, maybe they have something new. Keep in mind that a hidden system is a compromise and performance will be affected.
I decided on the Beltronics "RX75 Plus" remote with laser "shifting (jamming). (Passport SR7/SRX is the same equipment, slightly different packaging) Mounted the control box in the ash tray cubbie, out of sight of Johnny law.
They are expensive through authorized dealers/installers but so is the K40. You can find substantial discounts on Ebay through "gray market" sellers if you can install yourself or have an independent installer available.
I see Bel has a new one....Sti-R remote. I'd look at that one if I was shopping now. The STi (non-remote) has tested very well for several years.
Some pretty good reading about detectors and laser jammers: http://www.guysoflidar.com/

A buddy of mine has a newly installed k40 and swears by it... its bluetooth too which is pretty sick but runs about 2k. I'm running with the Passport 8500 x50 and am looking to pick up the ZR3 Laser Shifters to have the ultimate protection.... read up... there are quality products out there that DO work |

A V1, maybe a Blinder laser jammer, good eyes and staying out of the fast lane when possible as well as letting the rabbits do your bidding should keep you ticket-free...

<--V1 owner for at least 6 maybe 7 years, awesome device.
Detectors are legal(minus the 3 states), intent to speed is irrelevent(technically), and being respectful to officers generally does get you out of most crap (speeding, dui's, etc). There is a lot of law and regulation surrounding how the state must collect and prove data such as bagging you with radar/laser, what's admissable and not in court. I haven't had a ticket in nearly 5 years thanks to the first point I mentioned.. learning when and where you can stretch the legs is much more important than having a detector/jammer, but together you can change from 2 tickets, 1 conviction a year for 5 years, to zero tickets in the same time. |

I have an Escort X50 Blue that I have always been happy with but recently the "Service Required" message has been popping up and on the way home today every time I throttled up hte laser detector would go off, almost like the Maggie was setting it off when the boost went up. So f'in weird. All I can figure is electrical interference from the Magnavolt maybe.
Anyone else?
I need to call Passport. |

I do agree that the detector gives you the added protection, if your intent is to speed...hahhaa.. im in a ribbing mood. just my opinion... I had a list of reasons over the years for having mine, but the cost to keep up with all the emerging radar bands and laser technology got annoying. I should mention that NOT having one also prevents me from those few times I probably should have slowed down... but you sound like you already have the right strategy.
If i'm an officer, and I bag someone with a detector, they're getting a ticket. I would consider it a special catch since my fuzz got past his device..
so im curious if you've been pulled over any within that 5 yrs?
The bottom line for me is, doesn't matter what kind of detector you have, if the cop takes the time and effort, he'll get you.
I remember the huge original fuzzbusters..X band baby... Then K came along, KA, superwide KA,laser yadayada
Ive had many..The BELs were great. Uniden was very good.
Passports and escorts were always good too but I called my buddies yuppies for ordering them. (no offense Maui). Their cordless is the best.
Remember whistlers? Top of the line performance. Walmart $188.
and now for some needless smiles

The single best tip to avoid being pulled over IMO is staying out of the fast lane. If you have to speed excessively stay out of the fast lane. I find myself only doing 5 over for extended periods of time with a max of staying below 10 over. Generally speaking doing 79 in a 70mph zone 9/10 cops wont pull you over. I've asked many officers what their take is and they all say the same thing.
Off topic but on a recent trip home/Texas from Michigan my wife got hit doing 19 over, the cop pulled her over for speeding and for the hitch mounted cargo carrier, which was blocking our plate. He was cool and said he wouldn't have pulled us over but we had 2 violations and nobody was doing anything too crazy so he had to pull us over (19 over IMO is kind of crazy but to eash his own!) He let us go but said he had to write a warning so it didn't appear like he just sat in his car all day. It's all about the cop and I've never been given a break when I've gotten pulled over, that should change soon...
My point is 5 over is nothing on a 55mph road...
In the V though you have to speed...I test drove one yesterday and my was that fun...reminded me of my bike...my smile described it best... :> |

Mine is mounted to the mirror. I got pulled for a silly new personalized plate glitch (before I got the new plate). Wasn't speeding much.
The po po didn't even notice the V1 just under the mirror.
I know for sure it saved me at least 5 times in the last year. I like knowing if they are behind, in front, or to the sides.
I researched the jammers...but after the wife got me the V1 for xmas a few years ago (didn't even ask for it) I never looked back.
The V1 is updatable to the most current technology for a small fee.
This thread made me go to the v1 site to check; and I have the newest version. You can send it to them and get it updated. Nice.
Let her eat. |

Zilla: In the past 5 years I've been pulled over twice for speeding.. once out of state on business in a rental SUV where I managed to coast down a hill gaining speed into an oncoming officer tagging me the whole time.. I had no V1 which according to what he told me "I didn't decide to pull you over until you kept getting faster." would have kept me from getting the ticket since I would have hit the brakes the moment she went off.. laser or not if he wasn't lying even if he tagged me over the limit he claims he would have let it go if I didn't keep coasting. Either way thanks to DMV's being in the stone-age of technology that doesn't effect my license/insurance since DMV's aren't centrally linked between states. The other time was on labor day weekend on a KNOWN day, cruise controlled on the highway at like 70 (Usually I drive 75 all around with no problems, but on labor day after hitting 2 spot checks I took it down a notch).. This was in the V, with the V1 on all bogey mode, Ka sensitivity turned up. I saw the cruiser on the side of the highway and didn't even kill my cruise control since the V1 was silent. I think the cop thought I was going much faster than I was, he pulled out pulled me over and started accusing me of speeding, that he had to beat on his car to catch up, yada yada, I said nothing I'll deal with it in court in Jan. Speaking of good tricks. Don't ever plead guilty, and always show up to court dressed nice. The trash that shows up to the courts around here is such inner-city scum the DA's let me slide all the time.. same rule applies as dealing with the officers.. just be polite and respectful. They deal with so many hoodlims it's refreshing to them.
One more thing about the V1's being awesome is their upgrade policy. Typically you can send any unit in and have it upgraded to the latest technology for far less than retail cost of a new unit. Especially if it's some sort of logic upgrade that just needs a flash of the firmware. If they have to install physical hardware it goes up a bit but still a lot less than a new unit.

| yep. same way here. If you actually do get a ticket in the city, you have a 99% chance of getting off clean just for surviving the guantlet of crime; aka the journey from anywhere nice in Memphis, to the to the courthouse.
most people wont even go down there...they just pay it by mail. Unless you get more than 30 over, then you have to go. ...but still can get off just for showing up | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
