Solutions!

Remove this ad
Got back my car from the dealer a few days ago. Here is what happened, and some solutions.
1) Coolant Level was low-sign appeared. Luckily, they decided to be nice and threw in a new radiator for me.
2) Got my clunk fixed. Well it was fixed. Gave them the part numbers and said for them to make sure they change it. They did and the clunk is back within 500 miles! Yes, I drive 500 miles in 5 days! Anyways, a new noise also appeared from 45-50 mph in 4th or 5th gear...like a whine...dont know if its from the front or back though. Already got my tsb for engine whine, so i doubt its that, but not too sure its my differential. Anyone have any ideas?
3) SHIFTING...A few of us have had this problem and here is the solution. There is none! Here is cadillac's response if you cannot shift from nuetral to first about 80% of the time. Answer: Keep the car in gear. The car was meant to be always in some gear, so when you are sitting at a light that just turned red and takes 3 minutes to turn again, sit there with the clutch depressed the whole time and your car in some gear! I wonder who covers wear and tear on the clutch! I hate cadillac's engineers! I got Cadillac's number and am going to be giving them a call tomorrow and see where we get from there. It sucked this morning when i was sitting at a light and my car didnt go into first gear from nuetral...the car behind me almost hit me! I wonder whose fault it becomes?
4) Buzzing/Rattling noise from steering wheel area. Unable to duplicate concern. Thats always easy to say!
5) Marble noise from engine. Unable to duplicate concern. Yeah if you rev upto 1800 rpm when taking off, there is no marble noise from engine...but if you rev at 1200 and take off...its loud and clear. Oh wait, we are talking to Cadillac here, what noise?

All in all, I got a new radiator while my car was in service for a week and a half! I did get to drive their STS though...a fun car, but too slow.
Anyone have any solutions to these problems????? I love the car, but hate the problems! My main concerns are the shifting from nuetral to first, and clunk, although the noise has started to become pretty loud....too bad I dont know exactly where it is coming from. Sounds like its from the back, but not too sure..its too loud to tell...sounds like its everywhere! Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Solutions!

The whine is probably the differential.

The shifting can be greatly improved upon with a UUC shifter.

If you can't go from neutral to first directly, then go into second first, then go into first.
This same problem comes up when shifting into reverse.

It sounds like the clutch / slave / pressure plate are poor. I would replace with a Z06 Flywheel / Spec Stage 2 Clutch / Z06 Slave.

3) SHIFTING
Sounds like a bad slave cylinder to me.

I'd try another dealership.

Re: Solutions!

Sounds like an almost IDENTICAL severice experience that I had....

I have the UUC and the shifting problem is a transmission issue. However since the "bulletin" only comvers the 05, they wont do a thing about it. I am waiting to meet with the regional rep.

They replaced my radiator no problems....

The marbles (I have that too) I think is the dual mass flywheel... I have been noticing that recently too.

I noticed #4 since the car came back from the dealer (after the radiator install)... I have it on hard takeoffs... I am not sure what this is.. I am going to explore it this weekend...

I am going to talk to the regional rep (if the service manager EVER sets up the appointment)

Re: Solutions!

Well here is an update. I just got off the phone with Cadillac's main center and told them that it didnt make any sense to me why I have to sit at a red light with my clutch engaged and my car in some gear. The tech basically talked to my dealership and to another one in Long beach and said he didnt understand why I would have to do that with my car. He told me to take my car to a dealership in Long Beach or Downey.

Reed, what is a better dealership since you are in the area...the one in Long Beach called Coast Cadillac, or another one in Downey area? I was at penske before in torrance and they cant fix the problems.

Also, I hear noises from my differential from 45-50 mph in 4th, 5th, and 6th gear, and its getting louder than ever. Plus the cluncking is real bad again! I wonder what they will do to solve that now? Ive had my car more at the dealer than at home or on the road driving it! This is becoming too much. Just fix the problems Cadillac and I promise I'll buy more cars from you, I would hate to buy a Toyota just for reliability purposes!

Re: Solutions!

I usually go to penske.... They have not been helpful recently (and the driveline mechanic, as good as he has been with my differential, etc, admitted to me that he never worked on manuals before the CTS-V.... thats a bit scarry now)

I am not sure if I will go back anymore... It depends if they ever set up the meeting with the regional rep. I am still waiting...

I tried coast cadillac a while back and the Service writer told me he voided my warranty because I had the CAGS on it... I grabed my keys and walked out... However, due to my issues with Penske, I may try them again (if that writer has been fired). They have gone through a remodel and maybe a reorg so it may have improved... Stephan uses them (I think)...

Re: Solutions!

Here's where I go, I drive almost an hour one way. The president and tech both drive V's and they have one on their home web page. That should tell you something and according to Lawfive it's the fastest color to boot.
