Finally installed Heavy's bitchin' copper gaskets today.
I did not want to take a chance of any leaks, so I laid a good bead of copper RTV on one side, let it setup for an hour, and repeated on side two. After bolting in place I let the car sit for another hour or so while I finished changing the oil, raising the front 1/4" (post to follow) and a few other nagging issues addressed.
Do I have any leaks? None. They work. The combination of accurate prep (i.e. grinding the flange surfaces flat again) and a little copper RTV probably helps - but at any rate - I finally have a leak free connection.
The previous "dead soft aluminum" attemp on my own worked pretty well - but not perfectly. I have high hopes that these are the end to my exhaust leak woes.
Unfortunatly (fortunately?) the dealer will be dropping the exhaust in the near future for a replacement clutch
so I hope they can put her back together correctly.
