In other words, since there are so few "V's" out there, a company may never recover the R and D involved with such a project. In any event, I told him, I still have my old diff and would he like to take it apart and analyze it? He said absolutely, so I'm taking it back to him today. I'll post the results of his teardown when complete. Sorry I don't have better news. He did say that some of the Corvette guys are doing that cryogenic stuff and having pretty good luck making the diffs last longer....Stay tuned for more | Unfortunately, they can cryo and heat treat till the cows come home. The drivers side cover/bearing/shaft mount is still less than 1/8" thick. Its just too thin to prevent movement. Good luck. |

Marty, is this still the case with the new '06 part?
Would it be worth it to cryo treat an '06?

Lots of other stuff has to be done first, have a 402 going in, FAST intake, D-1SC Procharger, then the car has to go to Houston for the rear. I'll update as often as I can.

The Aussies are not dead yet. My contact is on vacation so Im waiting. Unlike us Americans, it seems the foreigners have unlimited 'holidays'.....
I have it from a reliable source that the 06 half shafts are beefier! |

Thanks for chiming in here. I like what Mike Smith is thinking about also. My guess that sometime during '06, someone will have a fairly strong "permanent" (if I may use that word) fix for the diff problem.

05 Platinum V, Maggie, 2.8 pulley, Billy Boat headers & exhaust w/x-pipe, More CAI, AFR 225cc Heads, 224/227-.563/.569 114 LSA cam, BMR anti-wheelhop kit, SPEC Stage 3 Clutch, Custom Tune, B&M Ripper Shifter, 500rwhp/440rwtq | Wow! Question: I've got a Maggie 2.8 & no headers. I'm making 482 RWHP/452 RWTQ. I've been thinking about what to do when I break warranty, and it's been looking like cam/heads/headers (and maybe dry nitrous ). But I see that your numbers with cam/heads/headers aren't substantially better than mine (I'm not trying to start anything here...), and I'm wondering whether all that expense would show up as power gains for me.
My understanding (limited at best) is that on our car less restrictive heads need less restrictive exhaust headers for any benefit, and that Maggie users will have to reduce their pulley size yet again to get the boost back up (I'm surely no expert on what's going to happen if you add significant volume to the combustion chamber...). Have you done that? In other words, are your numbers maybe not as good as they could be 'cause maybe the Maggie is only making 3+ pounds or so?
Or is this as good as it gets with this combination on the top end of the engine, so I can just save my money?

But, having been intimate with both, I would say that a cryo treatment of the '06 diff would be good money spent, and yes its visibly thicker everywhere on the case. |

Right now the engine is still being built then the Procharger has to go on. Car likely won't go to Houston for the rear until late next month.
Mike
On a side note, we have 2 '06 V's on the lot atm, one Infrared, one Black. |
