    Any other choice for Runflat besides OEM?

    Hello all,
    Just a quick question. I searched the forums but did not see whether
    anyone had put any other runflat on the V besides the Goodyear F1 EMT.
    Is there another runflat that we can use that is cheaper?
    The goodyears are $338 a tire at Tirerack. Anyone know how much the dealers are charging?
    Thanks

    CATEGORY: Tire
    PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00
    GM LIST: $340.20

    Many other options exist (EMT and not) in P245/45R18, W or Z rating....

    I think Bridgestone Potenza RE050 & RE050A are the only other runflat's in 245/45/18 ~$270.

    There's also the Potenza RE040, which you wouldn't want since the RE050A is newer and better.

    There is also the Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST. I don't know much about the tire but the surveys given to the TireRack were not good at all.

    I was eager to try the RE050A but I was able to acquire a spare wheel and wanted to try the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx. Why not be our guinea pig? Hey, the RE050A is an OEM tire for a lot of high-end cars, even some Ferraris.

    BTW, the test that the TireRack did between the RE050A and the F1 GS-D3 and the Pilot Sport 2, was with a non-runflat RE050A. Having the uber-stiff sidewall that comes inherantly with a runflat is going to give you better turnin respoonse, which may help the tire's performance numbers.

    Anyone see what gmp[artsdirect charges for shipping on a tire? I'm guessing $50 each.

    GY2454518 - Price per tire = $282.37

    Price for a set of 4 = $1,129.48

    Shipping = $19.80

    Total = $1,149.28

    Sales Tax (NC Only) = $79.06

    NC Residents Total = $1,228.34

    GSD3's 10 days ago from Tire Rack were $158 per tire after rebate or $671.50 shipped. Saved $477.78 vs. GMPD.

    I think Dreamin is pretty much correct when he says the only equivalent tire to the F1s at this time are the Bridgestone Potenza RE050 and RE050A. When I say equivalent, that would include size, run-flat capability, and speed rating (W or higher). I tried to replace my F1s with the RE050As but they were not available anywhere (including Tire Rack). I plan to try again when next I need new tires (unless someone who has actually run the Potenzas on a V turns in a bad report).

    The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx compares well to the S03 and many of its track numbers rate better. But what's not to trust about the runflats?

    I just posted "11550 miles new tires ...EMTs."
    The post will tell you about my choice of Dunlop Sport 01 DSSTs. I don't know why this tire even isn't considered.

    Re: Any other choice for Runflat besides OEM?

    There is a compromise when going from OEM tires which are Max Performance to the Dunlops you bought, which are Ultra High-Performance. Like you posted earlier, you can't compare the feel of an old F1 to ANY new tire. The new tire will always feel better.

    i am not comfortable riding on tires that are punctured for a few miles... id rather be safe stopped. beside run flats only run flat if the punture is on the tread.. what abouta side wall rupture? you aint running nothing at all then...

    I am not a track time guy... I am a hard corning guy... last dunlops I had were 9000 and i will NEVErbuy them again... they dont stick, and are even worse in the rain...

    I swear by 2 tires: Bridgestone S-03s and Toyo T1-Ss!!!!
