    Space saver spare for V

I need new tires (under 8,000 miles) so I'm ditching the run flats and I am going to get a space saver spare!

The only car I can think of that has a 6 bolt pattern is the Viper, is it the same as the V? Will it clear? I'm going to find out!

If not here is the plan.

I going to find a space saver that will allow room for the caliper and have it re drilled, weld in a spacer if needed. If that won't work, I'm going to get the center of a rotor from Brembo and try to modify a space saver to work on the V.

I don't want to put a big heavy full size spare in the trunk unless I have to.

You'd think I would have something better to do...

    that's alot of work....
have your best runcrap mounted on an extra rim (folks sell them frequently around here), and put it upsidedown in the trunk well. The floor cover still fits that way (but does not screw down). Then inside the well you put your jack, etc

People keep saying that the cover will not screw down over an upside down stocker. Mine does just fine. It does bubble about a 1/2" higher but I loaded up the V for a weekend at Lake Winnepesaukee with 4 people, their duffels and groceries.

Doing all that other stuff is just very unnecessary.

You might try one from an SRX. They have the same bolt pattern but I do not know if it will clear the Brembos

I'll hopefully try this out soon...

I have an SRX and have been wanting to find this out. My hesitation (assuming it fits) is wondering how much the donut spare rim from an SRX from Cadillac would cost? Might end up being the same as an extra rim from Tire Rack??

IIRC they are wrong offset, that is for the 18's. The 17's won't clear at all.

We are talking about the hide away spare not the rims. I don't think the offset will mater for that as long as it will clear the brakes.

SRX spare is 17"... And the tire is a 145/70/17 => 25" tall... that's so short, it'll tear up the diff running it on one side and stock height tire on the other side.

    The Durango, Dakota and Viper are 6 x 114.3 mm (4.50") which is oh-so-slightly different than the V's 6 x 115 mm (4.53").

I bought xtra wheel same size rubber, took out all that crap in trunk and it fits perfect.. it is a 245/35/20zr in trunk.. i bought a small hyd floor jack.. It is small, but fits perfect & holds those pucks to go under V. The pucks were higher $$ than the damn jack..lol but will change tire out & close trunk all in under 10 min, if you dont get run over on the 202 or 101 in Phoenix first.. uuhhgg..

    later blitzer

BUY a can or 2 of fix a flat just in case. I like to travel light!
Worst case scenario you will need to replace the pressure sensor! I'll take a chance!

Thanks for the info, I didn't figure that the Viper would fit. I know not to run different sizes on the back, but thanks for the warning, that could get expensive.

I don't think this will take more than a few phone calls to handle if it can be done. If it's to time consuming I'll go with the upside down new rim for $279.

Good info. But, a CTS-V is actually closer in size to the spare than the SRX wheel...I wonder how it works on the SRX??? Oh well.

    (SRX spare=25", SRX=29", V=26.7")
