    What is this part?

By asking this question, I'm clearly not a mechanic though I do like to do my own troubleshooting before taking to a professional.

I've been noticing a rhythmic clicking sound from behind the steering column on my 2005-V. I removed the cover above the pedals & investigated today. I found the source of the sound above the accelerator, but I have no idea what this part actually is and can't seem to find a diagram anywhere.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

    Thanks!

Without tearing my own apart and investigating; I'd say it is a actuator for the HVAC system. Does it move if you shut off the HVAC system ?

No difference in the movement regardless of whether the HVAC is off or on.

Yup, blend or mode door actuator, sounds like stripped gears.

That was my guess, check your hvac and see if all the functions work. A lot of times those little servo motors will break the blend doors and the whole dash needs to come out to fix it.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I haven't noticed anything about the HVAC not operating normally, but I'm definitely going to test it this afternoon to see if there's anything not working properly.
