Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolt / Missing

I just noticed that the drivers side exhaust manifold bolt closest to the firewall is broke off. Do these sometimes just break off ?
It broke off just inside the head.

They wouldn't remove these when they replaced my motor mounts a year ago would they? "GM dealer" ( I didn't have to when I installed my revshifts ) None of the other bolts look like they have ever been touched.

Can I just leave it like this, or do I need to get it fixed before more can break ? I have not noticed an exhaust leak.

May throw on some headers someday; no time soon though.

Headers are prone to leaking, so I'd think you may need to get that fixed when you do them. Might require that head to come off. What a pain.

Hopefully there is a a little bit sticking out that can be grabbed on to. If not, I would use a dremel to 'slice' a slot in the stud and try to use a screwdriver before pulling the head.

I used a mirror and flashlight. It is broke off inside the head. What bit do you put in your dremel ?

I read somewhere else that somebody recommended using CRC Freeze Off to get them loose too.

When I got my manifolds off the driver side rear bolt was in the head to far to do anything with. The pass side was sticking out flush with the manifold so I used vise grips to get that one out. But I used the drivers side as a great reason to buy heads. So just buy some 92 heads when you order the headers just to be safe.

Is it possible this broken bolt is causing my p0420 code. Catalyst inefficiency bank 1.
I don't see any char around the port for this bolt, but curious if this would contribute to it.

Sam, SES light came back on, took a lot longer this time since the new O2, but its back on today.

If it is, the thing you know you'll have coolant in your combustion chamber and in your exhaust.

Oops. Yeah, got my head on backwards this morning.

It could suck in air (including oxygen) and give a false reading to the O2 sensor, though.

It is common on lots of cars and truck...... Dodges do it too..... If they break off there is no need to remove the head, even if if breaks off in the head, just weld on it till it is tall enough to get a nut on it then weld the nut on and remove. Short blasts with the welder will allow a quicker build up
