    Video equipment

I know some of you guys spend some time at the track and use cameras to capture you time. Well my GoPro is having issues with the memory card and stuff. Gonna use it as a time to upgrade. I have been looking at a few different ones.

    http://driftinnovation.com/camera/drift-hd-ghost/

    http://vio-pov.com/products-all/pov-hd.html

    http://store.contour.com/ae/us/contour+2/icat/contour2

Anyone have any experience with any of these? The only reason why I am not looking at a GoPro again is because the audio quality was so poor and I just want to try something new. Any feedback would be great.

I'm trying to keep cost reasonable like under $500. I know there is camera/data acquisition software that is amazing but it is probably a little out of my price range.

    Re: Video equipment

I don't have experience with the ones that you posted, but here is an autocross run that I filmed with my Iphone4 and Harry's Lap timer. The user interface can be a bit confusing, but it does a decent job of recording video and allowing you to do basic data overlay. It uses the onboard GPS to make a map and does lap timing automatically.

-Internal Iphone GPS is 1hz you can buy an external 5hz GPS receiver.
-You can also buy a wireless OBDII device which allows you to record and overlay OBDII values as well.

    Re: Video equipment

I still have a first gen contour

does great video (30fps 1080p/60fps 720p) and as for the audio, it's just a hole in the plastic body for the mic, and the key is not exposing it to wind.

the newer contours have had real-time iphone viewfinder capability for a while.

I would go with another contour if this first gen broke (after three years and going strong)

    Re: Video equipment

I already have the torque app on my phone that can overlay speed, rpm, and other stuff. Sometimes it works well sometimes it doesn't. I want to get one I can stick on the outside of the car. I'll check out that youtube video when I get a chance. I just want something that can shoot HD video. Audio isn't much of a concern, plus with most newer cameras you can get a remote mic. I'll check the contours also. The drift app is still in BETA for the androids to control the camera and view the feed which would be pretty sweet.

    Re: Video equipment

What is the problem with the card? I have had gopro 1,2 and now 3. The first two never gave me a single problem. The 3 has gave me only one card problem and after a format never again. I have used the external mic on the 2 and the three that a buddy lent me his mic setup. The battery on the 3 sucks. I have two. I may get a third one. I had the contour and the picture quality wasn't as good as ( atleast ) as the hd hero 2. Out of the three links you got i would do the contour. I would call it an upgrade. If i was to upgrade it would be for a track type system. Cost more but you get more than just a camera. Hope this helps. Also if i can give any tips on the gopro use let me know.

    Re: Video equipment

Well the card normally like 'clicks' in. Then you can push it in to click it again and it will pop out... not mine. It's a GoPro1 and its pretty old. I might have to just deal with it. It's just annoying cuz sometimes it will jiggle out on the track and stuff, sometimes it won't.

It sticks in the side. I have tried tape, stickers, cramming shit in the side of the case, lol still have some inconsistency in the reliability of recordings.

    Re: Video equipment

is it the right sd card, maybe there's a latch that's missing or something

or not, I don't know what the internals of an sd card retainer look like.

(it wouldn't be worth opening it and replacing the retaining parts?)

Well it still kinda works so I am a little leery of taking it apart. I'll just deal with it for now. The old lady got all pissed when I was gonna order it so I'm gonna have to wait.
