    Looking at 2006 CTS-V 61K

I am looking at a 2006 Gray CTS-V with 62k miles on it at a dealership. Dealer wanted to $22 but I got them down to $20k. Car is in good shape with no mods but I am worried about the GMVIS. What do you guys think?

Looks pretty standard, IMO. My car has had most of that stuff replaced, and more...

Most guys have had that stuff done, but not ALL that stuff on a single car!

If it runs well and looks good and $20k is within your budget and it's the right color and you like it, I'd say go for it.

    Re: Looking at 2006 CTS-V 61K

I'd be more concerned with current condition than repair history.

For example, 1st owner of my car had a noise at 65mph. The dealer rebuilt the diff, (didn't fix the noise), then they put in a new trans. (fixed the noise) 2k miles later the clutch packs in the diff were making noise in tight low speed corners and were replaced. On paper it looked kind of bad, but really it was just a picky owner complaining about a noise on the highway.

From your list the following are common issues:
    Diff Hose/Vent (TSB)
TPMS (They fail from time to time, usually when installing new tires.)
Quarter Trim Panel (Sail Panels both of mine are broken)
Pinion Seal ('05 I think had a recall and other years had issues.)
    Motor Mount (Commonly replaced)
    Diff Carrier Bushing (Commonly replaced)
    Radio (Buttons peel)

Honestly the worst part that I see is that the motor mounts and diff carrier bushing were replaced with OEM parts 20k miles ago. That means that if they aren't bad now they will be soon.

Yea I mean to me that just sounds like an owner who Wanted their car perfect which could be a good thing. The 2007 I just bought has had a lot of that stuff done too. New trans, new clutch, motor mounts, radio replaced, pinion seal, one FG2 shock replaced, and more that I'm sure I'm forgetting, and I plan to try and get more fixed before my warranty is up! Still got bumper to bumper!

Seems like the owner was really on top of things but damn those repairs that were done in the first 15k would have scared me from buying one of these. If it has this many issues when brand new I would be worried at 70k! Looks like road side assistance was even used. Water pump replaced at teen mileage? Damn.

Is this car at a dealer in the Houston area? I'm thinking this might be my CTS-V I traded in a few weeks ago.

It was at Planet Ford, but it sold? I'm still looking for one in Houston.

That was mine. I hope it found a good home. The car had 15k miles on it when I bought it.

The tranny was replaced due to 6th gear noise. Good luck with locating one.

Was going to go pick it up today but they sold it last week. Real clean car and they said the just got it in. The replace oil light was still on and the remote didn't work. Only flaws I seen was it was missing a set of keys and the jack was also missing.

What are you referring to as the sail panels? Is that the interior trim panel that covers the C pillar in the car between the ceiling and the rear deck that has the rear seat belt passing through it? This part was broken on my car that I picked up last night and I though it was odd.

Pretty common for those sail pannels (cpillar trims) to break when someone pulls on them in the wrong way

Is there a way to repair it or does the whole trim piece need to be replaced?

there might be a way to repair depending on how it breaks but here we would not attempt a repair since it is unlikely to hold for long so we would sell a whole new piece
