I had $5,136 of PDR hail damage repair done to my 2004 and it came back looking great. However, I noticed my car wasn't at the shop over the weekend and when I got it back the passenger seat was kicked all the way back. My sunroof is broken and then I saw this:
I've never had it over .86 and I had reset it since then. It was in the .60s when I dropped it off.
realistically, being an angry ******* doesn't get you too far.
Present your findings calmly to the location. One of two things will happen;
the person will dismiss the claim, in which case make sure nothing is actually broken and move on/ notify your insurance carrier that they've done this. (don't just tell the adjuster, make sure whoever selects these shops knows)
the person will investigate the claim and look to mileage records/ if valid I would expect reasonable compensation. Reasonable is $100-250 of product and or monetary reimbursement.
It sucks, but are you more upset that the car was used and possibly abused or upset that someone else was using the car?
Because these car's were designed to be abused. Take a step back, a deep breath and make sure you understand what you're about to blow up over.
Ah yes I certainly wouldn't allow my anger to surface in my dealings but I must fume behind the curtains. I am so frustrated. I don't know how I can prove this if it comes down to it but I am going to inform the manager and let him do whatever he wants. Apparently the shop has an outsourced PDR guy who works in his dad's garage... Information that should have been brought to my attention YESTERDAY!! I'm mostly afraid for my tires and whatever damage they Mau have caused to my drivetrain. I can't imagine they got these results without breaking the tires loose a few times.
the reality of a collision shop is that there is no personalized care. You're a number. Even my 70K brand new V2 didn't get enough attention for them to not over-spray the shit out of it.
sucks yes, but next time set your expectations low or make them clear upfront. Asking questions is your best defense. Even after that, sometimes you just have to put up with some BS or fork over some extra cash for someone reliable.

I'd be pretty pissed. Check the seats with a blacklight. That said, 0.89 G's is nothing. I do 1.00+ in normal driving, it's not hurting the car at all. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be pissed about someone driving around in it.
I'd be pretty upset, too, but Fuzzy's right: I've hit .92 before totally on accident.
I'm much more concerned about the sunroof. How is it broken? Just doesn't respond to you changing the dial, or is something physically broke off?
I took it to Leflers which i chose based on reviews and their award winning past. The staff there was seemingly quite mature and exceedingly accommodating. The manager even came out and complimented my car. Maybe it was him! Yes I've learned already that you can't trust anyone but it still burns me up when something like this happens.
The plastic bit that pops up when.it is open is secured down with a metal hook in the bed of.the sunroofs cradle. The metal hook is snapped about a half inch down. I noticed because the roof wouldn't close because it caught on that. I don't know what the hell they must have done to break that...
Someone's head. That, or if you want to get really mad, someone might've been hanging out the sunroof. Might want to look for fingernail scratches on the roof.
Did you get a mileage reading when you dropped it off? How long did they have the car? Mileage makes all the difference to me. If he drove it hard to his shop to do the work, I'd care less than if he was out joy riding in it for 2 weeks.
Those G readings would be about my normal drive home from work.
Edit: Another thought on the sunroof. If you had $5k of PDR done I'm sure he had the headliner out to get to the roof, I could see them messing it up accidentally while working on it.
Yes, they only put 4 miles on it but the shop they were taking it to for the PDR was ~ 3/8 mi away so that's way more than was necessary. They only had it Friday at 1600 until Monday at 0900. I'm trying to get a moment at work to call them but it just isn't happening. My greatest concern is for my original 2004 differential. I mean, I putter around in this thing 90% of the time for fear that I may blow that thing out and then some ******* blows all my restraint out of the water. I mean, I've been depriving myself of a lot of joy while I ponder upgrading the diff, and some total stranger goes and makes up for it for me.
I mean right now my diff is fine and as far as I can tell, it hasn't gotten any worse but I've read the horror stories and I'd hate to shorten the lifespan. I have plenty of 3rd gear fun without stressing out my parts while this guy was probably drifting around a cloverleaf or doing donuts somewhere.
I'd feel very upset over the situation. Sure the car can take it but it's the principle of the matter and certainly poor business ethics if nothing else. Who knows what the guy did to it, how many times he was on the limiter, how many times he launched it or abused the trans...It just goes on and on. I would start by having a conversation with the facility owner or GM and take it from there based on what they do.
I can understand if you baby your car a lot, but I would get over it quickly since I drive my car like it is still in track school... best of luck on this though it always sucks when someone abuses your trust!
Seriously I doubt the .86 hurt the car, but it wasn't you who put it on the meter, so somebody else was whooping on your car and that's unacceptable if you didn't give them permission.
I don't care what anybody says, to hit .86, you are doing some tight ass turning, or donuts.
I agree though....go in level headed and then when you find out who the main service manager is, or who's in charge, that's the guy who should get the earful.
FWIW, I have an 04 with orig diff headers, cam, ls7 clutch and drive the hell out of it daily. I enjoy the car. I have no whine and little clunk. Oh and btw 132,000 miles. If I break it its not so expensive to replace a diff.
Do not deprive yourself of all of the joys that come with driving this car.
As an owner of a 2004 with original diff, I love to read stuff like this. My line of thought, correct me if I'm wrong, is that, generally speaking, the diff in the originals can handle the factory power just fine. Yeah, it's never good to beat on anything, but the diff was designed with 400 HP in mind, right? While i drive my V conservatively overall, I'd still like to think that the diff can take it.
Warren, I can certainly appreciate your perspective and am glad you're going to bring your concerns to the service department's attention! If you would like me to document an official complaint or follow up with your dealership on your behalf, please send me an email at Katie_Lucille@gmexpert.com.
if they were doing doughnuts or burnouts it would be very easy to tell just by looking at the tires, or in the wheel wells.
when i do one clutch dump, i get bits of rubber on the 1/4s, very easy to detect.
Thank you Katie, but I am taking care of it. I spoke with the manager of the shop over the phone as I cannot seem to get in there during operating hours. He seemed to doubt me at first. When I referenced the G-Meter, he said "I don't know about any of that technology stuff in that car." I am paraphrasing, but it was to that affect. Keep in mind this is the same guy who identified my car in the parking lot and came out to compliment it. He then told me the group that did the repair is a "storm chasing" lot who follow the hail and set up shop and then leave town. Surprise, they're gone. He mentioned that he severed ties with them due to some bad repairs on other vehicles and acknowledged my complaint. He said "they did the repairs right up the road from here, I just don't know where they would have done that to your car between here and there..." Real wise guy. The end of the story is he offered me nothing, and I don't really have time to pursue this so I'm just going to put the warning out there: LEFLER'S Body Shop in Newburgh, IN should probably be avoided. I'll spend the money out-of-pocket to repair my sunroof and move on with my life.
In other news, my car has 92xxx miles on it and the diff has a little whine at low speeds with the clutch out when it's cold. It stops when i put the clutch in. Is that normal? Anyhow, I get a little clunk if I am just throwing it around but I drive smoothly enough that it is rare, I think it is just the transmission mount. I intend to order new motor mounts/transmission mount/diff bushing. But man, that LS6 pulls like no other! 3rd Gear is bliss. And that 3-4 shift at speed! Oh my...

That's the transmission you're hearing at low speeds and is normal. Some thicker fluid would quiet it down, but that little noise at low speeds wouldn't bother me too much.
BBB, Google, Yelp, Yahoo, Phonebook webistes... you should write reviews for this business to warn others of not only the mechanics but the owners lack of concern for the issues you presented. May make you feel better and in the long run someone that cares enough about their car to look at the reviews will see what you've said.
