    Headlights, Brights & Fog Lights?

Anyway to keep the foglights on when you hit the brights? Circuit....fuse....?

I was cruising last nite on the AutoBahn from Trier cruising north of 125mph.....and just hate losing the light from the fogs when I hit the brights.

    Thanks guys.....

Re: Headlights, Brights & Fog Lights?

Thanks Darkman.....it looks like certain export models did not switch the fogs off when the brights were on....hmmmmm.......

Looks like this isn't going to be a simple "fuse pull" mod....

Re: Headlights, Brights & Fog Lights?

I did this on my regular CTS using a 451m relay.
I recently purchased a V and will document this in a little more detail for you guys when I do it.
A 451m is simply two micro relays. Most Best Buy installation bay's have these available or eBay one.
Basically, it uses one wire to trigger two relays. You will have to find the 12v trigger wire from the low beam and also the two 12v trigger wires going to the Left and Right fog lights.

You will cut each fog light wire in half and run the switch side to the 87a inputs on the relays and the other half of the cut wire will go to the 30 outputs of the relays.

This will allow the fog lights to remain working under normal switch operation (if you want to run fogs w/o headlights) but will automatically turn on the fog lights whenever the low beams are active.
The low beams remain on even when the high beams are on which works well for anyone with HID foglights so that they do not flicker when you flash to the high beams

    Shared Inputs:
    85 (red) - 12v input trigger from a low beam (L or R only)
86's (blue & green) - both need to be grounded
    87 (purple & purple/black) - fused 12v constant

    Cut wires/Seperate wires:
87a (white/black - relay 1) - the cut fog light wire coming from the switch side
30 (green/black - relay 1) - the cut fog light wire going to the fog light

87a (brown/black - relay 2) - the cut fog light wire coming from the switch side
30 (blue/black - relay 2) - the cut fog light wire going to the fog light

I was able to do this all inside the fuse panel that is behind the passenger headlight.
I grounded it to the body using a self tapping screw with a star washer, found a heavy gauge 12v wire for the constant power. The headlight trigger wire and the fog light wires were all underneath of the fuse panel. Just pull the panel out of the way and work around it to get wire access...

I hope this helps for now but I do not remember the wire colors of the vehicle. I think the fogs were purple or something like that.
I found them pretty quickly by using a multimeter and testing for continuity and 12v as well. Just tuck the 451 under the panel, put the cover back on and you are done.
FYI, for people running HID fogs as well you will have a lot of people flashing their lights at you thinking you have you high beams on. It is extremely bright.

I don't have any particular need or desire to do this, but thanks for the excellent post, sx54dx.

Re: Headlights, Brights & Fog Lights?

Correct me if i'm wrong but the fog lights already come on with the low beams. (if the fog light switch is in the ON position of course) He wants the fog lights to come on/stay on with the HIGH beams.

Yes...I'd like for all three sets of lights to be on at once.

    sx54dx...thanks for the GREAT write-up....
