    Re: Oil Consumption WTF??

The bulletin from GM states that if the LS2 (not sure about the other LS engines) sees higher than 3k rpms for a sustained amount of time then 1qt of oil every 3,000 miles is normal.

    Re: Oil Consumption WTF??

My ls2 consumes oil but it is nothing that alarms me anymore. If you do a lot of 3k+ driving like heavy said, or do a lot of engine braking, it will consume more. GM will only do something if you burn more than 1qt every 2k miles. Yeah it's a ridiculous amount but that is the way it is. If you're burning more than that, then you have a problem and should get it checked out.

Get a catch can setup. Then at least you won't be eating it.

Never passing 3000 rpms = no oil consumption. Got it.

    Re: Oil Consumption WTF??

My LS2 spends a great deal of time north of 3K RPM...sometimes continuously (driving north of 100mph)...and so far it has not had consumption issues. On my last OLM-based OCI (from 100% to 5%...don't know the mileage) it didn't need any top-up oil.

Mine was the same way. Added an oil catch can and the oil consumption seems to be normal.

Granted I just had the motor rebuilt due to a spun bearing.

    Re: Oil Consumption WTF??

Yet again you guys come through. I have the exact same thing with mine. I drive mostly highway and some city on the weekends. I am sure during normal acceleration I'm above 3k and I surely mess around with other cars on the turnpike. I have noticed that (going by my oil life percentage) I need to add just under a quart when I get in the high 30% range. I then don't have any other problems until the next oil change. Thanks for the info
