thanks for all the great replies!! so does anyone know the reasoning behind the consumption ? , and being that we have the vette motors, do we inherit their oil-ring problems?

Where do you get this from?

Oil-ring blow-by was a problem but is not inherent in "vette" motors (the LS2 is a truck motor also).

As for yours, maybe a ring problem so it is really a matter of you getting the thing apart and checking if it isn't sucking oil in through the breather.

Try not doing the "spirited driving" for the 50% of the time you claim you do for a few thousand miles (if you can) and measure the useage.

You might add a catch can and see if oil is in fact being sucked into the motor.

Also, it may not be rings at all.

Although this bulletin talks about different motors, it does apply:

I just turned 100,000 miles on an 06. Never have to add oil with 5 to 6K oil change intervals. I engine brake all the time. Magnaflo sounds great on decel. Shift at 2800 to 3500 rpms routinely.

    Re: Oil Consumption WTF??

Well I am 2600 miles into my last oil change. I drove the Dragon, hard, and other western NC mountain area roads last weekend and I just checked my oil: it's right at the top of the dipstick. Perhaps it's been said but I believe the LS2s are more prone to oil consumption issues than the LS6s in these cars.
