This morning didn't start out too well......

On the way home from the dealership after getting the airbag seat sensor safety recall done, a car in front of me hit a big piece of metal in the road and flung it right up in to my front end at interstate speeds. It hit so hard I felt a good jolt but hoped it was just a little scratch. 10 minutes later when I got home I saw this:

I guess I'll turn this in on a comp claim and pay the $200 deductible. The headlight alone will be 1k at least and the bumper replace or repair with labor and paint will be close to 2k I bet. SIGH!

Sorry to hear it, but there is not much you can do to avoid that kind of thing.

Do you have a clearbra? If not, a clearbra may have actually minimized damage enough to make it fixable...

Sorry to hear of this but +1 on getting clear bra when re-done. Plus if your a front plate hater do'nt have them drill the ne bumper. Good luck. I don't know if you know of a good body shop or which insurance carrier you have but I know of a great one in Warrenton Mo. It is not convienient to you, but he is approved State Farm so they don't even have to send estimator out they just do what he says and he does great work and will care for your car as he would his own.

Also I'm sure you've already done it but if not very closely inspect the side and back making sure it did not contact your car as it went by after hitting the front.

Re: This morning didn't start out too well......

Yeah I just washed the car to check for damage elsewhere and I don't think I see anything else. The sad thing is I went through this last year after an incident with a neighbors dog that ran out in front of me. Just to fix the cracked bumper and repaint was not cheap and the douche neighbor stiffed me. The body shop that did the work did an awesome job so it will be going back to them for sure. I have Erie insurance and I've heard they are good on claims so we'll see how it works out. They already told me I can take it wherever.

After the first incident was repaired, I swore to myself I'd get the clear bra after the 90 day paint curing period. Needless to say, I never got one.

I'm hoping to trader her in on an 09 or 10 V2 by the end of the year or early next year so I'll probably hold off on the clear bra.

Does anyone think they'll just fill in the whole and repair this bumper or will they need to replace the entire thing? I'm kinda hoping for a replacement because of the previous incident.

I remember that now, glad you have someone who will do excellent work. I too would push for replacement. Good luck.

The price of the clear bra is about the price of a respray. Not worth it, imo.

I hear this over and over and it makes no sense. Most clear bras are warrantied for life. A fresh paint job looks great until when? The first chip. Yeah, if you like munged up front ends, respray every whenever. After 5+ years, my V's front end looked spotless.

And back to the point of a clear bra. It can help prevent damage in instances like this. Proof? Here is my poor '04 after a deer avoidance maneuver that had me riding a cable median barrier...

Worst I've had so far was a flatbed that threw a nice rock which took a chunk out of the hood, then hit dead center of my field of vision. I couldn't dodge it due to traffic even though I saw it all in slow motion.

I remember the guy that caught a piece of a semi tire in his grill. His V was grey also..

Re: This morning didn't start out too well......

Yeah, but looking at the first pic, see how much gouging is on the hood but not nearly as much where the clear bra is? If you hit a piece of metal straight on, it can still puncture. But if it hits at an angle it may glance off or keep a puncture minor enough to where it only needs touch-up. Either way, it will help. And as long as you have documentation of install, insurance will replace that, too...
