Phone line coming out of mirror?

Any idea what the phone line coming out of my mirror is? I was hoping it was hard wired for a radar detector, but I just plugged in my escort 8500 and it didnt work.

At one point it was! I would start following it to see where it ends up. Probably just unplugged at the rear under seat fuse panels...

    Bingo!!

That's an Invisicord for a Valentine One radar detector. Buy yourself a hard mount for under the rear view mirror and then you can hook up your Valentine One radar detector and never have to think about it again.

it takes 5 mins to install but finding one would be sweet.. once you get a radar detector, you never go back.. never

Thanks, anyone know if it should work with a escort 8500? Quick google search says yes, but it doesn't... I suppose i'll start looking around for the other end. Why wouldn't they have tied into the mirror's power? I've done that on previous cars.

Probably just have to reverse polarity? It's all 12vDC.

Quick fix. (If there is room to tuck one) Buy a female to female adapter and a short length of cord. The (+) and (-) switch when you route it through one of those so that might get it to work. Of course if you know what your doing just use a test light and see if its even getting power on any of the pins first.

Re: Phone line coming out of mirror?

I pulled the nasty electrical tape off this afternoon and checked it out. The best I can tell is that the previous owner tried to install a radar detector, but never was successful! The phone line was unconnected and there were 4 bare wires!! and a wire nut!! in there. The ground wire was untouched! I think he cut and tried random wires or something. I found the ground wire here:

I tried to get my radar detector working with the 4 exposed wires that he'd cut. It didn't work. I put them all back together (accidentally called Onstar) and spliced into the ground. It works great now. I just need to get my mount in. Just ordered one of these:

They are awesome. I've had one before, but it got stolen (along with my radar detector and mirror which broke my windshield when it was pulled off).
