spray the buttons and knobs with a clear coat, before they start peeling, and they should outlast the car.

Re: Radio - Nav buttons have lost enamel. How to fix?

I didn't know about the replacement buttons and used some flat black touch up paint (from OReilly's) on two or three buttons and the volume knob. I'm really picky about my cars and I am actually very satisfied with it. I really have to get really close to be able to see it.

That being said, I may order some replacement buttons and keep them on hand.

To give you an idea how bad mine was, the top nav button had a 1/4 inch chunk missing out of it right up to the little circle (light?)

Get the buttons from Luke, he knows how to order them. Most dealers don't know you can do it but you can.
You just need a 3.5 mm tool to remove the circuit board screws.
Getting a "new" unit is usually a nightmare because they seem to have issues when they refurbish them. I have gotten several bad replacement units and had to exchange them again. If yours is working replace the buttons.

The glass is over $600 last I heard but you can get just the glass too.

I remember some of the radio replacement horror stories. Search this forum and you will find them.

I ordered a set of knobs and buttons from Luke at Lindsay Cadillac two weeks ago. He called me on Monday and said he was shipping them out.

Have you guys noticed a difference in the new and older buttons' sheen once installed?

I'm pretty anal about things matching and I'm on the fence about replacing just the 5 on mine that are bubbling or all of them.

I thought about getting an entire new set and coating them with a thin clearcoat, but the bubbling of my current ones tells me that maybe the issue is long term adhesion of the paint, not outside chemicals penetrating the coat. This of course assumes that a fingernail or some other object has not broken the paint seal already which on mine they have not.

The new buttons are noticeably brighter... I think over time they'll blend in... in my case I replaced all the right side buttons which looks fine, but the "band" button stands out a little

Re: Radio - Nav buttons have lost enamel. How to fix?

GM obviously had an issue with their interior supplier as I have a couple buttons on the radio missing paint the turn knob for my sunroof has a huge chunk missing and the large round knobs on the radio also bubbled up. I went to the local hobby shop and found a gray epoxy that matched and touched them up. Looks ok but pealing elsewhere now. So will have to see if I can order some....

Has anyone ever tried to polish the nav screen? I was thinking that the light scratches could be polished out with a cream like what is offered for headlights. I dont know if the screen is a polycarbonite type material but there has to be a way to remove the scratches without replacing it. Anyone try?

from what I have read, the screen has an anti-glare coating that can be easily removed by cleaning products or polish.

however, i've also read you can just replace the screen with another piece of glass by removing the front cover.

I called Specmo to order nav buttons and they said I needed my radio number off the back to order. Does anyone know this number or do I have to tear the unit out first? They said the number is on the back of the unit. I have a 2006 if they aren't all the same radio number.
