I bought an '06 last week. Been wanting one for awhile. I've been driving an '96 Impala SS for 10yrs prior. I see them as related (Vette drivetrains).

Purchased: 04/09/11 at 7pm
Storm hits: 04/11/11 at 1am

Got to drive it for 3hrs & have owned it for 30hrs at this point. FML! Drove it home, parked it at 1am Sat.

Night I drove it home:

Parked next to the Impala:

What's this? You don't say?

WTF? FML!

Appraiser say $6600 in repairs. I say she's full of shit.

Also, it's likely the roof of my house is totaled. $2000 deductible there too. Houses all around me got damage similar to this:

Anyone know any good body repair shops? Whisler gave me the name of the Sewell Grapevine guy I need to talk to, but I'll get some more estimates done.

Wow, 2 days!.. I know you're bummed. If you kept the impala for a decade you obviously love your cars.

They can fix hail damage nicely these days, search for 814V's car.. it got hammered by hail too. It's only the skin, not structural. A collision or huge tree falling on it would be much worse.

Can you loop the V in with the homeowners claim? Might cut down your out of pocket cost.

File a depreciation claim and pay off the initial deductible, then take a 2 week vacation somewhere tropical with the rest of the cash while they fix the V....

At least it happened now, before you REALLY get attached. Worst case you can launder it and get another one, but what a chore. I say get it repaired and go from there. When you see the results you'll know within 10 seconds if you can live with it..

I've had a couple of door dings done ... had 'em fixed and can't see them at all, now.

Your car, however, is a mess. I'd be sick to my stomach. Really sorry to see that happen.

It can look good as new, it's just gonna take money.

That really sucks man. At least you didnt buy my car only be stranded with a melted positive battery cable (on headers) and then a week later a blown bottom end.

It could always be worse.

That's awful dude, I'm sorry. They'll fix it, but there's no way I'd let them settle out at $6600. At first I thought that was alright, but after looking at the rest of your photos it looks like every single panel got hit. It's going to be very expensive. Thank god for comprehensive insurance, though, right?

On the other hand, you could just take the check, put it towards the car payments, and then just park it wherever and never worry about door dings. :)

Had something similar happen to me a few years back. I had just bought a brand new Acura TSX and 3 days later, one of the worst hailstorms rolls though. Luckily I had a 0 deductible comprehensive policy. The first two places I took it wanted to bondo and repaint the whole car. I finally found a place that would do the paintless dent removal. $6000 bucks later my car looked brand new again. Its sucks having to go though this but hopefully you have a decent insurance company that will help you though it.

I took it by some shops & they said "no way jose on PDR" & I tried talking to the adjuster about it AGAIN. He just reiterated take it to the shop, let them file a supplemental to get the money to do it right.

(Realization as I was typing this . . . )
I think they cut a lowball check hoping I'd just take it & not get the car repaired. The only way to get more money is to actually have the car repaired. Now it all kinda makes sense.

I've got an appointment with Sewell Cadillac Body Shop 5/16 to drop it off & get repaired & will let them deal with the insurance company about getting all the monies.

I went with Sewell because after talking to them, they'd make it like it was from the factory. Also, they could address some of the little things like one of the interior panels retaining tabs broke. They'll likely replace it because they'll have to remove the interior to replace the roof.

I figure I can just put on a custom hood later if I *STILL* want it. I can take care of the spoiler in the driveway.

Glad to hear that your V will be properly taken care of. Hope it comes back in better shape then when you bought it.

Dropped the car off at Sewell yesterday & got a call from Sewell today. They've filed a supplemental with my insurance agency. The agency is going to come back to inspect or something.

Thus far, Sewell has said:
new hood
new roof
new passenger door skins
new trunk decklid
new right front fender
new unibody side panel (rear quarter to a pillar)

Minor PDR on the driver side with a few dents. There are a few dents on the driver side roof rail/rear quarter/front fender. I kinda hope they replace the left front fender so they have to repaint the driver side. There's a couple of very minor scuffs/scratches on that side I'd like to see disappear.

Pretty amazing story. I sold a 95 Impala SS to get my first V in 2005.... Fast forward to april 22... had my 05 V and my 3 week old 2011 Diamond edition V wagon in the driveway...... HAIL... nailed both of them... PLUS the tornado north of here took out my 24 foot enclosed car trailer..... good news is.. paintless dent removal did an incredible job on both cars.

Are you in St Louis?

I took way to long to align this! ;)

This is just the supplemental. So, some of the original estimate still applies, so the $13k here replaces SOME of the $6.1k of the original. Probably $15k+ easily.

FML some more, so insurance is saying after their response to the supplemental that the total is now around $11k. They're also saying that is around 70% of the value of the car. WTF? They think this car is only worth $15.7k?

I paid $23.7k. They're about $8k off. I'm not taking a bath for this car . . .
