2004-V Front Dash Vent cracked (from the cold???)

    Hey all,
Been a long time since posting anything but this morning I went to get in my car to go to work and noticed the front dash vent cover cracked clear across. Now, yesterday (or at least the day before) this was not cracked.

It was really cold this morning (for Orlando - dropped to 36 degrees last night) and my hood release was even difficult to close - had to move it back and fourth a few times to get hood to close....
But I really cannot believe that this crack occurred from the cold as many of you live in areas that drop below ZERO.

Has this happened to anyone before?

AND most importantly, can anyone point me in the direction to find a reasonable replacement? Not finding much on any listed "part-outs".
[ there is one on eBay currently but it is beat up ::: listed as "Cadillac CTS Front Dash Trim Plate Defrost Vent Bezel 1"]

    Thanks all!

mine is cracked in 3 places - interestingly, also originally a florida car. I ordered a new one from Lindsay Cadillac for $120.

My guess is the overall increased usage of the ac in florida..

Grendels probably cracked when the HEAT hit it, not cold..

Well, after a few days of driving with the crack, I almost think that it may have been caused by stress. When I take long turns (like circle on-ramps) the crack makes slight noise from the turn force. Now this may happen regardless of the cause but something is causing the piece to buckle ever-so-slightly in turns now.

Just a theory but why it cracked out of the blue to begin with is still a wonder.

    Thanks all!

Are you guys talking about the big wide piece on top of the dash or the double vent on the top of the center stack?

I have this same issue with my 2006 STS, is it the same fix as the V?

    Hi,

I have the same problem for my 2006 STS. It cracked due to extreme heat, not cold. 49 deg Celsius.

Dear darkman, do you have the direction to dismantle the front dash vent for the 2006 STS?

Is it a good ideal to fix the crackes using super glue?

I do not have anything on the STS.

I would look at silicone sealants from an auto parts store for this type of repair. Auto parts stores may also have some other alternatives that would allow color matching.
