I admittedly take everything with a grain of salt, subscribe to no one's cult, and like to seriously consider all options. They presented their information in a way that doesn't say the performance of the V1 is horrible. It does what it does well, but it's not the most feature packed device out there for the price.

All of my radar detector purchases (4) in the last 15yrs, 3 were influenced by the results they posted (2 mine, 1 hers), but I did not buy from them.

Are there V1 slanted tests comparing same models finding different results than radartest?

Can't help but notice you've bought 4 in the last 15 years...... I've had the same Valentine for that time frame & had it upgraded, Send it in & have it back in a couple days with all new firmware, All My upgrades costs less than one of your replacements to get all the new goodies. Think that brings the costs of owning the Valentine down considerably If your planning on staying up with the newest technology

Been a really long time since I've seen a test that was 100% unbiased..... There all selling something

and since no one can sell the V1 other than Valentine, There isn't anyone with the motivation to slant a tests toward the Valentine.

So, who knows what the real results would be in a totally fair test. All I know is I've been buying radar detectors for over forty years (remember the FuzzBuster). Since the V1 came out I've always ended up back with my V1.
And it's not because I haven't tried all the ones that seem to come out on top of these tests. For a long time I also looked at those results & purchased a detector based on them, But in my real world tests
there is none of them better than the V1 (And since it is a V1, as in cts-V1 it has the edge on the competition)

But thats just my opinion !

Have had my V1 since 1994 with 2 updates. Bought a 2nd one about 10 years ago and it's been updated. No radar tickets in those 17 years. That's all I need to know.

1st purchase was some window mount, I don't recall. Just randomly stopped working.

2nd purchase was my Bel Vector Remote. It worked flawlessly for 9.5yrs (2001-2010) in my Impala SS. Then it just started beeping an error code & I could never figure out why. Bel/Escort won't even look at it due to it's age. I replaced it with my 4th purchase which is the Escort Qi45. The antennae looks identical to the Bel, except it has RJ11 plugs for all the add ons.

4th purchase was another window mount for the woman's car. It's worked ok too.

None of the window mounts work in the Impala because of the sungate windshield, so the remotes was the only solution.

The only tickets I've gotten with mine installed were going to have ticketed about 75% of the people with or without a detector. Freak occurrences & once was laser before I had laser detection.

The laser diffuser on my Qi45 has already saved my butt twice. Neither time was I even stopped &/or another motorist was stopped. The last time, I saw the cop on the side of the road as I was doing a fly by of my friends & before he could target me, I was decelerating & by time he did, I was already close to the speed limit when the Qi45 went off.

    I'm rambling . . . it's late.

Radar detectors are as much Ford vs GM. I'm a GM guy though, thru & thru!

+1 on the laser defuser...... I have a Blinder extreme on mine and likewise on the saves, Saved me several times.

As for laser, Any radar detector will just let you know your about to get a ticket.......... By the time you get a alert it's done

Didn't worry about laser here in Indiana in the past because they rarely used it, But that has changed in the last couple of years.

Like you say it's just like a Ford, GM thing ..... Everyone has there preference, So it's to each his own

If your happy with yours and I'm happy with mine Thats end of story ...... Good luck with your new V

V1 for the price point and features CANNOT be beat. Redline will beat it out on 34.5 Ka most of the time and is Spectre proof but also costs $100 more and is arrowless. I myself am going to pick one up though to use in conjunction with my V1. (Yeah I'm a bit obsessed with countermeasures).

Also not to leave out the 9500ci. It is an amazing until but is also remote mounted and 1k+. Also the "jammers" that are part of that package are useless....

Driving in Detroit today and this is a great area to use any form of countermeasures. People for one scream around here at 80+ with a posted speed limit, but unlike jersey everything here is so flat. hard to hide as a police officer it seems.

I have a blend mount and invisicord on my v1...I'll try to get pics in the next day or so. It hides up next to the mirror nicely...

I just use the Invisicord and the normal V1 suction mount.

I didn't program the V1, just never got around to it. In town I'll run it on one of the intelligence modes where it alerts X band at whatever you have the mute volume set at (I'll keep it on silent) since nobody in ATL uses that except banks/stores/and some of the tower mounted radar guns used by the DOT for avg. traffic speeds. When I see Ka I usually perk up as that's a tell-tale with some local PDs.

Around the ATL metro almost all departments exclusively run Laser so eventually I'll get a jammer setup when money and time allow but since I'm so familiar with where they like to "hide" I know if they're there before they ever see me or can get a clear shot as I'll make sure I break direct line-of-sight by letting another car get between us so I'm looking over/around/through that car to where the cops like to sit.

Got bored in traffic this AM so took a couple of blackberry pics so I apologize for the lack of clarity. I realized last night that my GF has confiscated my good digital camera to get some pics she needed for work.

Don't worry, we were doing about 10mph but I did manage an "action shot" lol.

Be careful with the suction cups and the hardwire combination...I learned that one the hard way. If its wired up and the suction cups let go (like they love to do when the temp starts changing here in the summer) it will fall while its wired and break the pins where its hardwired in. Not likely to cause permanent damage but you'll be cussing at the time, especially when the V1 goes mach 3 into some part of the dash/console where you wish it didn't.

When those pins do break, pull them out of the harness with needle nose pliers and go to Radio Shack. If you buy an old printer cable "end" (can't remember the correct term) where its a 8/10/etc "pin" harness you can use the spare pins that come with one of those to re-build the hardwire cord for the V1. I've done this 3 or 4 times so far over the years and its pretty easy after you do this a time or two...you'll also realize you can build a hardwire cable out of a phone cord and some of those pins for about $2 bucks...
