how loose or stiff should ball swivel movement be on hub side stub of axle?

I rebuilt an axle i had on the shelf with a Gforce econo. So I removed the stubs from the spare axle and transferred them to the Gforce. the diff side telescoping stub swivels extremely free. It will wobble just by shaking and rolling the axle. On the other hand, the hub side stub moves free but "stays in the position I leave it". Meaning if i swivel it (bend) it off axis, it stays in that position until i "move" it to another position. It is "reasonably" easily swivel-able by hand but does not wobble free like the other side.

Upon my pulling the one in my car I noticed both sides on it are rediculously free and swivel on their own weight almost with only boot resistance.

Do I have a problem with the one I put on my Gforce axle? should I replace? hope not as that is the side thats a PITA to take off. Hope not, I had to pay to get the first one off the axle i had on the shelf.. I'd have to pay twice because i'd have to remove the one i installed on the Gforce and the the one from the axle from my car.

My outer does not flop around under it's own weight, even shaking it it seems to stay put, it moves without much force by hand, and has a fluid motion to it though.

My car is a 2007, with ~19000 miles on it, so i would assume that this is how they should feel, I did just install the DSS axles though, so it is a new boot and new grease that i am comparing this to.

The real test is axial play, (IE the direction the axle spins when under power) does it have a lot of slop when holding the axle and twisting the stub?

The 'loose' side is not bad unless you can feel that there is play between the balls and the race. The insides of the inner and outer CV's are of different designs and the inner end will move more freely like you're describing.

Not to thread jack but I'm doing my gforce right now and finally have the axle off the hub. I have a 2x4 with a hole in it for the diff side, how did you get to hub side off?

i had to pay to get mine off... i have no slop or lash in the hub stub. it is tight mechanically with respect to the balls (insert your own joke here) and has free movement, just not like the inner stub - sounds to be A-ok then

    thanks !
