Taking the V to an autocross this weekend. I'm planning on just running it on F1s for now. I took a look at the TireRack for some race rubber for the stock wheels and found nothing in our size, which was not a surprise to me.
So I started searching for different sizes in race rubber. The only sizes that were close to acceptable was a 265/35 18 or a 255/35 18. The 255 I know will fit but it will be awfully short. The 265 will still be short but not so much. But you think it could fit?
Obviously, having a short tire is not a penalty in an autocross where top speeds remain low and it can help acceleration. The only thing is, I'd probably keep these things on for awhile, have some fun on the street.
Stock tires are pretty tall to make good race tires... that's why i think they're not offered.
You have only a few options: Hoosier A3: 245/40/18 - hardcore race tire, very sticky, shouldn't really drive to the events on them (though I do ) Toyo RA1: 245/40/18 - not as sticky as hoosier, but much stickier than any street tire - not recommended, but ok driving to the events on them - will last waay longer than hoosiers - i really like these tires! Dunlop SP Super Sport: 255/35/18 - never heard of them, and as stated, they are pretty short - but i dont think this should be too big of a problem... TC *should* be ok. Pirelli PZero Corsa: 255/35/18 - haven't used them, but have heard good things about them - a bit stickier than toyo's, not as sticky as hoosier.
I wouldn't run 265's on stock rims. Can't find any Kuhmo size that works.
BTW, the World Challenge cars run the Toyo RA1 - if it's good enough for the CTS-VR... should be good enough for us
The CTS-V race car will feature a 5.7L overhead valve V8 engine. It will produce more than 500 hp with a maximum rpm of 7600. Its top speed is estimated to be in excess of 165 mph, and the car, like every other in the SCCA SPEED World Challenge, will be shod with 18" Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires (275/35 front and 335/30 rear).
When he says "dedicated track tire"... i'm not sure if he's talking about a full-on slick or a DOT race tire like a hoosier. But i read it as a bit less sticky than Toyo RA1, but "blows away" a street tire.
For the price, doesn't sound like a bad tire... but it will look ridiciulous on the street!
