How to remove interior sail panel

Have a rattle behind the right sail panel. This is where the new digital On-star was installed to replace the older analog. I saw at the time that they just had the unit connected to the body with a plastic wire loop. Need to get at it to add some padding. Don't want to destroy the sail. Must be some trick.

    Drat, beat me to it.

Be careful not to break those little plastic tabs on the "air bag" clip.

I should really get around to fixing mine sometime. Also, both damn 'oh shit' handles are pulled out (one screw stripped out on each). I only ever think about that stuff when I check my blind spots though.

Yeah the screws are pulled out and stripped. They're surprisingly long.

Re: How to remove interior sail panel

I noticed after a 300 mile drive home both air bag cover/panels behind the rear seats coming from the deck lid to the roof have popped loose at the roof. I pulled the panel away some so i could see behind it. There is a clip or bracket on the back side of the SRS symbol on the panel. It appears this piece should pop off and bolt back onto the car.

This here explains how to fix it, but does anyone have any additional pictures or instructions?

The integrity of the plastic frame of the panel where it meets the metal pillar and screws on doesn't hold well and usually breaks. The fix in the past has involved gluing a metal washer to the pillar so the panel has a stronger surface to screw into, our a washer on the panel (i don't recall)

Also, it doesn't have to be windows down that pops them loose. If screwed on too tight, severe bumps or chassis flex can do it too. I had 2 or 3 let go and I haven't rolled down my rear windows more than 1/8 inch in a couple of years.

If I knew they never had to come out again the fix would be a glob of jbweld!

Yea, mine are down too! They popped loose after a week or so of driving with the windows down at near 100mph! Since this is Texas, window down weather is done.

Sail panels are exterior pieces, not interior. GM technical manual fail.
Sorry for the year delay in the response.
