    Automated (Hiding) Front License Plate

Well, I finally got stopped by OSP for "no front license plate." No citation, but the writing's on the wall.

I remember a thread from some time ago (didn't come up in several searches) about various ways to mount the plate. I finally ordered a remote-control "disappearing" front plate holder from Swift Motorsports and, while awaiting delivery, thought I'd pick peoples' brains and see if anyone has installed one of these on a V.

Having not seen one of these devices in-person, but in looking at the front of my car, I see a potential problem in the form of the front air dam. Particularly interested in how anyone resolved this issue.

    Thanks,

    ----Mac

Ahah! I knew it'd been done before. Thanks for the link (and the pics). It might be a bit different on the V1, but I'll deal with that as necessary.

Will be sure to take some photos of the installation process and post them up. Thanks again.

I have the none motorized version on my V1. Never been pulled over for no plate, only got a ticket when parked. I mounted mine just below where ther plate screws into the bumper. The hardest part was cutting the stainless grille. Good luck!!

Still haven't received this automated gadget yet. Got an email from Swift Motorsports yesterday saying they'd been swamped with orders and would get mine out soonest. Again, once it arrives and I have the time to deal with it, I'll post a report on its installation.

Heres mine, non motorized. I removed the lower grille and cut out the required space to fit the plate assembly through. I cut, then sanded the ends smooth. Right in the middle I added a small piece of vacuum line to protect the plate from the bouncing on the metal. The rear of the bracket is held in place by the strap. Not pretty, but you also cant see it from outside the car.

Re: Automated (Hiding) Front License Plate

The black tab is where the plate pivots at the front. Due to the angled nose of the V it has to stick out a little to let the plate sit flat against the bumper. I wondered that as well while I was installing it. However when viewed in person most people don't notice it. Those that do ask one of two things so far, "Do you have a radar detector?" or "Whats that", to which I say my hideaway license plate, an immediate conversation piece. This was my first mod, and love it.

Re: Automated (Hiding) Front License Plate

Well, I finally received the "Show-N-Go" automated flipping front license plate bracket from Swift Motorsports a couple of weeks ago. They were severely back-ordered....had to wait quite a while.

Anyway, for a host of reasons I've decided no to install it on my V and just listed it on eBay. As an afterthought I also listed it in our Classified section (prolly shoulda thought of that first...doh!). It's new with all wiring, two remotes, instructions, etc. PM me if interested.

    Hello Mac,
Please let me know if you still have the license plate available for sale. I am unable to send you private message. If you have it for sale, please respond.
    Thank you.

Re: Automated (Hiding) Front License Plate

Sorry, Sladotron, but the motorized plate holder has been sold.

FWIW, I seriously looked into putting this thing on my V...and had a couple of more mechanically-minded people than myself also take a look. Bottom line was that it probably could've been done, but would've needed a couple of brackets fabbed up to make it fit under the front end. Even with that, it would've necessitated folding up (crushing?) the rubber air dam...or worse, cutting part of it out. After all that the consensus was that it'd ride so low to the ground (on an already low car) that I'd probably lose it on a speed bump somewhere.

There're pictures posted somewhere on the Forum of a V-2 with this holder installed. Looked like the V-2 had more room to work with...and no rubber dam to cobb up the works.

I could've cut out my lower grill and installed it there, like the other contributor to this thread did, but just couldn't bring myself to hack away at the grill. I finally just hung the front plate behind the lower grill, where it looks a bit tacky but makes me (kinda) legal.

Re: Automated (Hiding) Front License Plate

That is exactly what I was considering. I'm just worried I would be fined for having hacked the plate, or something, but if it comes to that, I just assume go back to no plate as there is no way I'm going to drill holes in my bumper for a bracket.

    Do you have any pics?
