Like he said, center punch it the rivets and drill straight through them.
When I was putting the new core in I tied the linkage up to the steering wheel to keep it in place while bolting everthing together. And then like I said I used vice grips to hold the head of the bolt, taped them to the shifter so I could go under the car and put the nuts on.

The instructions provided are well done.

Got mine installed in 3 hours including a dinner break and help from my gf. I will ship my core out either tomorrow or Friday. The car actually feels faster since I'm spending less time shifting.

Please package it well, they break through a lot of packaging. Thanks.

    Glad you like it.

I placed it in a padded envelope reinforced with packing tape inside a Priority Mail envelope. There's $120 insurance on it so we're both covered.

Yes. There are three people on the wait list and one more ready to pay and be on the list. The wait is currently 3-4 weeks with three people on the list.

Folks - Can anyone comment on the difficulty to install? All I've read is a very old post that said it was a 3 out of 10. Essentially I'd like to know if it is impossible to screw up.

Not bad at all. 1- make sure not to break the tabs on the console up front under the ash-tray area. 2- drilling the rivets; but no big deal.

This is a VERY easy install. Make sure you use lock-tite on the bolts that replace the rivets. When I went to do the clutch on the car I found out that these bolts were just resting in the holes. The nuts had vibrated themselves loose.
I was wondering why the shifter felt so disconnected.

UUC Bushings - If anyone wants to order the UUC busihings that are recommended in this forum, I'll save you some leg work by providing the link below. It has the 1-888 number to get a hold of Luke. Cost was still $30 plus shipping. Luke was super easy to deal with and there was no problem shipping to Canada.

I can't recommend Luke highly enough for his level of service and commitment to the V community. Plus he keeps these bushings in stock.

Hey PISNUOFF I've got a question for you... Do you keep any vehicle information on the cars you've done shifters for? Like maybe a vin#?

I only ask because I've recently bought an 05 V and it's obviously had shifter work. I've gotten to drive two other Vs with stock shifters and they were horrid compared to mine.

If it has an aftermarket shifter, what's the easiest way I can check?

You can partially remove the bezel from the console and see what the top 1/2 of it looks like and look at the bottom portion under the car. Those two parts will tell what kind it is. You can send me pics if you'd like or post them on this forum. If the top is purple, it's one of mine from the past six months or so.
