Since a couple of days back, my V has been exhibiting a strong smell of burnt plastic, which smells like its coming from the engine compartment....

The longer I run the car, the more promient the smell.. It is especially bad at stoplights. Its a 2004 V with about 6700 miles... any ideas? Thanks.

Check the oil dipstick tube, if it is up against the plastic cover it could be melting it. I had to bend mine slightly away because it started melting.

there was a similar post a while back.....maybe in the roadfly forum if not this one. I think it ended up being an internal battery short?

Is the car brand new... it does smell like burnt plastic, paint, etc. for a first few hundred miles.

Umm... It was a Wal Mart bag stuck to the bottom of the muffler... it should melt off soon.

Don't overlook the obvious, I always say.
