Phoenix is the best...convertibles and motorcycles are only used in the winter time there.

I was in Tempe a few years ago in early August driving around ASU's campus for my son's orientation. We'd look for a parking spot as close to a building as possible 'cause it was 114.

Reminded me of Michigan trying to park close to a store ... only when it's January, and it's below zero.

Definitely, the struts on my car won't support the hood when its cold.

Re: Got nailed by my trunk lid for the last time(s)

My wife complained that her CTS trunk lid always fell down unlike my V. So I replaced one strut and now it pretty much balances, although she mentioned getting hit the other day. Must be the age of the struts. I notice most posters had 2004 cars, same as my wife. Maybe they corrected the struts later since my 2006 V has no problems.

I opened the lid the other day not enough, leaned over to grab something out of it and smacked my head on the latch. I was not happy, but ignored the pain....cuz I love the car so much. (on the exception of the 2' of snow we just had, and the cruddy job on behalf of the LI snowplows)

How hard are these to replace. I need to replace mine ASAP.

Only slightly harder than a light bulb. Do it.

This used to happen to me quite often as well. Dealer fixed mine though and hasn't happened to me since. 3 times in one day would likely push me to the edge as well though

Re: Got nailed by my trunk lid for the last time(s)

This is a weird thread to me. Before my CTSs, I have had only one car that used struts instead of the old gooseneck hinges. That was my Grand Cherokee, which had its struts fail three or four times in the years my family had it. But every single time they failed, it was the opposite of what you guys are describing; they would always seize up and get extremely stiff, requiring great effort to open or close the hatch.

Heavy, I saw you stated your autozone package came today in the other thread, but thought I would reply here.

You said it takes force to close the trunk now. More then you would expect, or normal ?

Does it spring open by itself when you release the trunk lock?

Re: Got nailed by my trunk lid for the last time(s)

Now, you operate the trunk release and if you lift it just enough (a few inches) it lifts the rest of the way by itself slowly (so you don't get smacked in the face!).

    TOTALLY BITCHIN.

The only thing I wonder about is if it gets released while I am driving.

I know it ain't gonna slam shut on the first bump.
