I'm having a problem with the car starting after its been sitting for a while (a while meaning overnight). It sounds like a fuel problem as it will start, run for a few seconds to a minute then studder and choke and die. If I try to give it some gas during, it will die on me. After 15 mins or so of trying, it starts and stays running and then I can drive it. If Its been recently ran, I can start it up no problem at all but only after it sits over night its hell getting it going. Any ideas?
Under WOT, I get no studdering or hesitation, so I'm assuming my magnavolt is fine. The A/F on the dyno was normal.
On a side note, my installer is going to order and install a walbro intank 255, Then I can get rid of the damn magnavolt completely. This should help in my conversion to E85

I replaced the fuel filter but still dieseling and now I am getting hesitation when giving it gas. I'm getting some really low idles, when I give it gas, it dies most of the time. I'm also getting some surging. I really hope it's not a fuel pump problem.
Any ideas anyone? Misfiring somehow? Magnavolt? fuel pressure regulator? I guess I should check the O-ring on the back of the fuel pressure regulator. How do I measure fuel pressure?

Deedubb, check under the passenger-side FRC toward the rear. There's one of those friggin'-can't-remember-the-name fittings on a T in the fuel line, just before it makes that stupid U turn and into the fuel rails ... mine has a green cap on it. I think that might be a place to connect a fuel pressure gage to. I've got a fuel pressure gage, here, but to get it to you, the shipping cost would be darn near half the cost of the thing new. Pop your hood and take a look. Maybe someone else can chime in and verify/knock down if that fitting is where you can check it or not.
Dang! Whuddaya call that fitting?!! It looks like a valve stem.

Also, you might check your Throttle Body Position Sensor.

You might pull the intake to the TB and see if there is oil in it (the TB) |

Re-grounded the magnavolt. Where is the fuel pressure regulator. Please tell me its not in the tank?? I checked ill fitting hoses going to/from the intake but all seem ok. |

After sitting overnight,
Disconnect the fuel supply line from the rail and stick it in a jar and turn on the ignition.
If you get fuel flow I would assume ok.
Attach a pressure gage for exact pressure.
It sounds like your somehow bleeding all the fuel back into the tank and having to refill the line. |

Well it dumped another foot + snow on us so I haven't been able to do much on the car in the past few days. Will be testing my fuel pressure tomorrow. If fuel pressure is low, We'll be dumping the tank and replacing fuel pump with an intank walbro and a new fuel pressure regulator this week I'm not sure what else it could be at this point.
One thing I did notice is that when I turn the ignition on (not starting the vehicle), I don't hear the fuel pump kick on anymore. I assume that sound I used to hear was the priming/or building up fuel pressure. |

Seems kind of odd that the fuel pump would decide to take a dump at this particular moment. Are you certain all the electrical connections are good, particularly the ones you did during the install?
Sure hate to see you take the fuel tank out. That's not suppose to be a trivial deal. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
