Age: 45 | | | Re: Tires Stating the obvious for treadwear, the higher-priced performance tires such as PS2s will only get you about 10-12K miles in a 4,000lb V1 that is driven like it should be, with no consideration of track days or time at the strip; living in a warm climate year-round (read in: hot pavement/roads) will lessen this. I have had two sets of PS2s, great tires, never a performance issue, very quiet at triple digits, worth every penny. My original F1s were toast at 5k miles, they are terrible in comparison to any tires, unless of course you need the security of a run-flat. Now that I no longer piss Benjies, I am looking at alternatives that offer greater value, such as Hankook V12s. One thing that is unobtainable is a great tire at a great price that delivers unparalleled performance and treadwear, know the trade-offs, look for something that offers a lot of both. The Hankooks tested 2nd in the test, and offer a 280 treadwear, good enough to forget about the PS2s, which are about twice the price and probably half the treadwear rating.
BTW, I am buying some shares of Hankook in the morning,,, |

wurst-tyre-eveeer.
I had those on for a few thousand miles (came on some donor rims, and I got a flat on one of my Falkens, so just threw them on as a stop gap). I still have one sitting in my garage, basically brand new. What a POS tire those are (anyone local want it?)
I'm on set 3.5 (14 tires) of Falken Azenis RT-615's. They are good compromise between price, longevity dry traction and wet traction. Great performance level daily driver tire (for those that don't want to spend $2k per year on PS2's).
THIS JUST IN: Hoosier Slicks (Grand AM - GT spec) are on sale right now: https://www.hoosiertire.com/ecommerc...sp?SubCatID=17
$100 each! Shipping is free to lower 48 ($7/order processing fee). $407 for some Hoosier slicks folks! Plus, Bonus points for cool white lettering!
(make sure you get the GT's , and not the DP's!)

I am definitely going to get a set of Hankook tires eventually, but my question is about the F1 GS-2, and whether they are worth buying at that price. Set of 4 tires delivered for $466. I was hoping for some opinions about that tire to see if I should jump on that deal or not. I am probably not going to get on the track until spring of next year, so are they better than the F1 Supercar run flats that are on my V now?

Anyone try the Nittos or the Kumhos?
The Kumho is great on a Vette, I dunno about the Caddy size.
I doubt I'm going to switch brands, the PS2's are a tough act to follow, but some input would be great! | I just replaced Pilot Sport (18k). I don't track either, so a Summer Performance tire wasn't the only criteria. In the past, I have regretted replacing Michelins with another brand more often than not. Anyway, decided on the Pilot Sport A/S Plus. My first impression is that I made the right choice. Haven't had a chance to run them hard yet. Will let you know how they perform over the next few days with more miles on them, if you are interested. |

There are several really good tires to choose from now that cost so much less than the Pilot Sport or the PS2.
Knowing what tire you took off and what the new tires you put on is great.
At the begining of this thread I didn't think I would switch brands, but like Onebadcad says "Now that I no longer piss Benjis" I think the
Hankook will be the choice since it sounds like it betters the PS2 for WAY less $.

I was ready to go for the Hankook V12 @153.00; but I got such a good price on the Sport A/S Plus (209.00) that I had to try them. Tonight 90 mph + excellent. A few curves .46 G (40 mph) tires handled as good as Pilot Sport. My main concern was wanting the V to handle and drive the way it was designed with the new tires. Read to many horror stories, etc. Plus the guys at Discount made it an easy decision by telling me that if I didn't like the Michelins, bring them back and try something else. |

I ordered them from tirerack.com and got the tires in two days, had them mounted up yesterday. Noticeable difference right away. I have only put 100 miles on them so far, but the ride quality of my car is greatly improved. I get no road noise from them, great traction, and they do not follow the imperfections in the highway like my run flats did. They were $143 each with a $50 rebate when 4 are purchased. Hard to beat at that price. I will post follow up reviews as the tires wear and I test them more, but so far I am nothing but pleased with the tires and the tirerack.com service...

Let us know how they perform in the corners.

The V's overall ride has definitely improved. I had the Pilot Sports not the PS2's
I like to drive aggressive; but I don't do the track.
Highway speeds: Great, quiet, smooth with a good sense of control. Been to 100 mph ..tracking, control, stability is excellent. Quieter than PS.
Cornering: there are a few roads close by that have posted 20 mph curves. Taking these corners at 35 to 45 with g anywhere from .35 to .52 the car felt good and no sense of loosing grip or control.
Now the Pilot Sports are softer and that meant that in the aggressive cornering they were a little better than the new A/S Plus, which is to be expected. But not enough for me to take the A/S back and replace with PS 2 etc.
My basic driving is everyday highway, so what's important to me is ride, smoothness, and control would be when I needed it. You guys who like to track your car would have a different criteria, so the A/S wouldn't be your first choice. Appearance also is important; want an aggressive look on this car for sure.
For the price I paid (209.00) I decided to go with the A/S; especially wth the 45K warranty.
If I would have had to pay 245.00, I probably would have gone with the Hankook V12 or Nitto Invo
Hope this helps. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
