factory component crossovers

Remove this ad
I have spent the last hour or so looking over the faq and using the search engine here. I am just wondering if someone can answer two questions for me.

1. are the factory crossovers for the front component speakers located in the back near the amp or are they up in the front by the doors/dash?
2. about what gauge are the factory speaker wires?

I am getting ready to install some mb quart q series components and the crossovers for these things are huge, so I plan on mounting them in the trunk. But if I can I'd like to avoid having to run 2 pairs of speaker wires to each individual doors. ohh btw 2006 v with nav

Re: factory component crossovers

The crossovers are active and built into the amplifier section.

If you want, pm me your email address and I can provide the wiring.

It's true that the amplifier has an active high-pass around 100hz on the front outputs, but the split between the tweeters and door mids is passive. The factory front tweeter has a capacitor inline to block out the lower frequencies. I don't think the mids are low-passed at all, but I didnt get a chance to verify that. According to the service manual there is a splice pack located under the side door jam near the B pillars that splits the signal for tweeters and mids, but I doubt there is any crossover network inside.
