I think many peoples problems with the way that cops operate is the fact that there is so much discretion (or indiscretion) involved. The law should be black and white, either everybody who speeds gets a ticket (including the judge and the cop and the cops wife or I don't either, but its easy for you to excuse all of this because you yourself have been cut a lot of breaks. Maybe I would feel the same way as you if I was the one getting all the breaks. Quote:

I also have friends and family who are doctors, nurses, firemen, etc. I give everybody the equal respect that they give me. I have never once been disrespectful to a cop (because they have generally been respectful to me) I think its BS that I get a ticket for speeding and Johnny Law's wife gets to ride on. So if that makes me a cop basher then I guess thats how you can label me, but you know as well as I do that there is something wrong with the way the system currently operates. At the end of the day I consider myself to the be the one in charge of keeping myself and my family safe, if the cops wanna help great if not I've got my own guns. Tony, if this is a violation of the rules then my apologies but I don't think its fair for only one side to make their argument. |

This is not an invitation for everyone to pile on Police Officers and accuse them of being racists, punks, thugs or anything else.
This is the CTS-V forum, not the "bitch about the police" forum. We have several LEOs who post here on this forum, and I will not allow people making broad stereotypes to insult them when they choose the very stressful and dangerous job of enforcing the law. Some of you guys would feel like real pricks if you realized you're insulting some of your buddies and their families right now. One more post about anything other than discussing the front license plate law, the thread gets locked and infractions get handed out. Feel free to try your luck if you don't believe me. | Tehehe, let's see if Tony has ballz or not...

I was wondering why i never see cops under the woodlands parkway overpass anymore. that's awesome! why did the judge force them to do that? were they abusing it? | It happened when I still lived in The Woodlands but that may have changed again since its been a few years. They were banned from actually sitting on 45, as far as the frontage road Im not sure about it. I think they did the same thing to the Bellaire cops down on 610. These podunk "towns" with a population of 55 people made their revenue off of moving violations. |

Also - i have to say, i've probably been pulled over as many times, if not more, than 95% of the people on this forum. In the 7 years i've been driving, i can REMEMBER a good 15 times, but it's probably more.
| I'm in the 5%. Only been pulled over a few times in the V, nothing major like previous vehicles, and this by far is the fastest. The only thing I've been pulled over in the V for is front plate.

Damn man, you've been lucky then. You get serviced at Claremont Cadillac, right? Be careful when you head over to that dealer. Cops are pretty brutal around the Caldwells. One time I got pulled over on my way to 711 to get milk, and then AGAIN on my way home back with the milk. In the same town. Go figure

Go figure | I used to have one of those gold police shields in the window back in the day. It was like a licence to speed, after getting pulled over, they'd let me go, most of the time. Now I have one of the brass id's with my name engraved on it. Got me out of a ticket 93-65 in the V in GA two years ago. I was driving down to FLA. That got me out of that ticket. Completely shocked. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Rocky Point, NY Age: 59 | | | Re: Boooo, got a ticket I agree that a policeman is only enforcing the law, he does not make them. I have had three cars without front plates a 2007 Charger SRT-8, an 05 CTS-V and a 2008 Z06. I keep the plates in the car and I keep them a little dirty (except for the Z, it stays clean). When pulled over in the Charger or CTS-V, I just say that I had noticed tonight that one of the screws for the plate was missing and I was afraid that it would fall of, so I took it off until I could get a new screw tomorrow. In the Z, I have a removable plate bracket and I just explain that I had come from a car show and had forgot to put the front plate back on and "if you would like officer, I can do right now". The officers have always been receptive to this and I have never gotten a ticket for it. Besides, being from New York, on the cars that I do have front plates on the first thing I do when I cross the state line is take it off. It seems if you have a New York plate it is a police magnet. The only time I ever got a plate relatred ticket was in of all things a 1994 Cadillac Deville. I had clear plastic shields over the plates to keep them nice and clean (for 12 years i must add). Got a ticket in a park and ride lot, turns out to be illegal in New York. They think you are doing it so they cannot get a picture of your plate. |

state law in iowa is 70% in the front, texas is 35... now i know that it was illegal and i was pressing my luck but mine regidtered at 4% LOL
cant fault the cops for doing their jobs, so I just pay the ticket and life goes on... had 5% on my TA for 5 yrs now and never got ticketed for it yet and it has been in texas the whole time..
Front plate laws are annoying can't tell you how many people I know that have gotten warnings for it but what can you do mount the plate or keep paying for tickets |

I was a cop for longer than many members contributing to this thread have been alive. That, in itself, doesn't mean much...just that I survived to retirement and am now enjoying it. But I definitely remember what it was like making stops, alone and very late at night, on vehicles whose occupants' intent was a complete unknown.
It is an arguable fact that a lot of bad people both "work" and mingle under the cover of darkness. No matter the probable cause for the stop: headlight out, no front plate, tail or license plate light out....the chances of turning up something scary, dangerous or revolting are exponentially heightened during a night time stop, particularly in known crime areas.
While some innocent folk may be inconvenienced by such stops..and may receive cites for their no-front-plate transgressions...the fact remains that there is a bonafide reason for most of these stops, and that sometimes the public benefits from them having been made.
One night back in the '60s I stopped a clean, newer Mustang with a tail light out. Single driver occupant, very clean and pleasant. Might've been a model citizen were it not for the severed human arm on the rear seat. Cleared a grisly homicide before it was even reported.
Cops, at least good ones (and I've worked with very few bad ones) are paid to be curious...and to use the tools given them and their powers of observation to try to keep their fellow citizens safe and secure. Doesn't always work out that way, but they keep trying and often succeeding. One thing for sure: A person driving a vehicle displaying a stoppable infraction, especially late at night in a "suspicious" area, is probably going to get stopped.
And BTW....I got a ticket for 85 in a 65 about six months ago. Just smiled at the nice officer and signed on the dotted line.

| Yeah.... not that I have experience, but I've watched cops a sure hell of alot! Ok, now that you are done laughing, but when you hear multiple officers say, you hear your friend/colleague asking for help, and you know you are still a ways away......
The police in my town are over strict, the point of boredom. I'm not complaining because I know my town is a safe place to live and don't really find their way in town. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
