2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V General DiscussionDiscuss everything about the first generation Cadillac CTS-V that does NOT fall into either the Performance or Appearance Modification category.
I got a ticket from one of these guys last Fri. 93 in a 70, on 840 which is like the autobahn around here. .
I go to Nashville somewhat often but had never been on the 840 until I went to the Nashville Super Speedway..It is very hard to keep the car under a hundy...widely divided hwy, sweeping curves, with very good visibility and scenery...In the V, 93 feels like 50.
Memphis is great. #1 in kills for cities with 500,000+ people. Pine Bluff AR barely edges us in homicide per capita. (we not proud of this of course. Our mayor is out the door in 21 days so we'll see what the future holds.)

Yeah, my Navy Air Traffic Control School was there Feb-June. Fun Fun. Not nearly as bad a my train dispatching school for Union Pacific RR in Omahell from Nov-Feb. Thats 14 weeks of my life in an Arctic wasteland I will NEVER get back.
My be back in Oct for the LSx Shootout.
Sorta back on topic....
5'7" cop pisses off the wrong guy. My guess he ran his mouth behind his badge and gun, not that they provide much help...
This is coming dangerously close to bashing of LEOs, which I won't tolerate. There's asshats in every line of work, be it salesmen, police, fire, EMT, military, convenience store workers, and all other walks of life. I'm sure none of you would call a police officer an "******* hiding behind a badge and gun" when you needed them to help you.
Debate the merits of plate laws all you like, but continue with the stereotypes about LEOs and this baby's going on lockdown.

Absolutely. Reread this thread and see it's now run the gambit from LEO bashing to taxation politics No matter how much of a douche the bag is writing the ticket, you should always RESPECT the LEO. ALWAYS.
A point I was trying to make in a post like 3 pages back, but didn't convey to the forum very well: is that a lot of laws (including this one) are subjective to the individual LEO's opinion. It's that subjective interpretation that seems to have sooo many gray areas. Either clearly define the law so no interpretation is necessary, or have more interpretation continuity amongst our LEO brethren. The pessimist in me knows neither will happen.

wonder if anyone here has ever been racially discriminated by a officer. i know at least one. on multiple occasions. i would disagree on always respecting an officer. they are people like everyone else. not always right but not aways wrong. Always is a word like never. never say never and, never say Always in this context.
I'm sure there are plenty of stories around here of people who have had a bad experience with Law Enforcement, but it's totally irrelevant to this thread. The OP was pulled over for violating a local law, and he understood that. He even went so far as to say that the officer was cool and didn't give him any grief about his tint or exhaust, so I don't see any reason for people to be ranting about the Police here. This is not an invitation for everyone to pile on Police Officers and accuse them of being racists, punks, thugs or anything else.
This is the CTS-V forum, not the "bitch about the police" forum. We have several LEOs who post here on this forum, and I will not allow people making broad stereotypes to insult them when they choose the very stressful and dangerous job of enforcing the law. Some of you guys would feel like real pricks if you realized you're insulting some of your buddies and their families right now.
One more post about anything other than discussing the front license plate law, the thread gets locked and infractions get handed out. Feel free to try your luck if you don't believe me.

I purchased the motorized license plate bracket, because here in NY they like to bust balls for no front plates. I bought the car and drove around for 3 weeks without it, but now at the touch of a button, it comes out from under the front bumper and flips up....then at the touch of the other button on the remote, it pulls back in underneath the bumper. Show n go baby. Front ends are WAY TOO SWEET to mount a plate up there for good. I drive around with the plate 'put away' quite often, but I usually get the feeling of when it should be in the 'visible' position.
Either way, sucks you received a ticket. Appx $125 around here - with ticket plus surcharge.
Ask anyone in the Houston area about the Shenandoah Police Department. A judge had to force them to stop issuing tickets on I-45. Asshats.
WHAAAAT?
man i wish i'd known that - when did this happen?
ANY time i drive through Shenandoah on 45 i always slow down to 64mph (speed limit is 65, but just in case the radar gun is off by 1 or 2mph...)
I was wondering why i never see cops under the woodlands parkway overpass anymore. that's awesome! why did the judge force them to do that? were they abusing it?

could you post some pictures of the install? perhaps a video?
Also - i have to say, i've probably been pulled over as many times, if not more, than 95% of the people on this forum. In the 7 years i've been driving, i can REMEMBER a good 15 times, but it's probably more.
Anyway, i think to stereotype about the corruption in police departments is wrong - it's the bad eggs that give entire departments a bad rep. I'd be willing to bet probably 1 out of every 1000 cops is actually corrupt, and those odds are pretty good. Sure some of them are a bit high-strung, but if we had to deal with what they deal with on a daily basis, i'm sure we'd look at things a little differently too
I've also been pulled over for bogus reasons. The one time a year or so ago I was driving home at 1:00AM after watching a late movie. Doing the speed limit, etc. and i got pulled over, taken out of the car, and searched by two police officers in two seperate cruisers. Humiliating, and demeaning, no doubt about it, and i fought that one, but i did it the right way - in court. I didn't give them a hard time or mouth off to them right then and there, because then you're just asking for more trouble. Bite your tongue, swallow your pride, and comply with their requests, and fight it later. That's what i've learned, and it's worked so far.
Another time i was speeding (like 2 weeks after getting the car), but not excessively. Officer came to the window yelling at me, tazer in his hand, yanked me out of the car, told me to put my hands on the hood and searched me right there, for doing nothing but speeding. The worst part was my younger sister was in the car with me, sobbing in the passenger seat the whole time.
I've had some horrible experiences with cops, but at the end of the day, if i or anyone else needs help, i won't think "oh i don't want those corrupt *******s out here" - i'll be the first person to dial 911!
Jon - if it's illegal to not have a front license plate, and having it in the window didn't help, then please - remove it from your front window lol.
On the other hand, if you research it and it IS legal as long as you have the license plate visible (i.e. in your windshield), then by all means, go to court with pictures of your car (taken over the last few months - with date stamps either on the picture, or written on the back). I'm not sure if the legal system works the same way there as it does here, but i'd go to the courthouse, request a trial by jury, and when they give you a jury date, show up with pictures over the months/years showing that in each picture you have your front license plate (in the windshield). Tell them it's visible, and you had it at the time you were stopped, and you'll get out of the ticket scott-free.
I know many cops...Most of them are real nice people. I live in Broward County Florida, a Major metropolitan area that includes Ft Lauderdale. Cops have a very important job to do. We all know that we are at risk of getting a ticket when we break the traffic laws. It's a chance we take, but you can't blame the cop for issuing a ticket no more than you can blame the zit-faced kid for charging you for the gallon of milk at the grocery store. He's just doing his job! Sure, cops have more discression than the zit-faced cashier, but I doubt anyone here has never been cut a break before. Maybe the guy he pulled over before you got a break...He can't just never write a ticket.
Maybe you fail to realize how essential traffic stops are...You'd be amazed how often a simple traffic stop will turn up an individual with warrants, or a stolen car....A cop friend of mine pulled over a car for a simple traffic infraction and upon approaching the drivers window she spotted a ski-mask on the seat...once she got all 3 guys out of the car she found 2 more masks and a bunch of guns! These guys came a 40 minute drive from Miami to rob a friggin bank, where someone may have been shot! All this from a simple traffic stop!
So before you Bash "cops", think for a second of the nature a job that anything can happen in...Imagine if YOU had to walk up on a car, at 3am, with tinted windows, not knowing a damn thing about what kind of scumbag(s) may be inside...Even if you had the balls to do so, I guarentee your stomach would be in knots!
Give these guys some credit!
Oh, and as far as corruption...There is not a profession out there that is not affected by corruption...That zit-faced cashier from the grocery store and one of his buddies are probably sneaking beer out the back door and hiding it behind the dumpster! They don't represent the entire profession!
