Small towns arent any better, I see it every day where I live/have lived. Everyone knows whos making meth and whos growing pot by the ACRE but the right pockets are greased so nothing gets done. I lived on an ISLAND with 100,000 people. It isnt hard to find the corrupt element but the other cheek is turned more often than not and then stick tourists with menial speeding tickets or other minor violations because they know they have the money and will pay.
Pissant police departments that prey on their affluent neighbors are the worst. Ask anyone in the Houston area about the Shenandoah Police Department. A judge had to force them to stop issuing tickets on I-45. Asshats. |

Its hard to say you don't have ticket quotas when somebody finds the letter you wrote telling the highway patrol they have to write 500 tickets a month or else.
I got a ticket from one of these guys last Fri. 93 in a 70, on 840 which is like the autobahn around here. They have in no way made the roads any safer by writing this ticket. I will go to court pay the fine and keep on moving. It is simply a game that all of us play with the police, they won this time because I forgot to turn my radar detector back on after using it in another car. Oh well lesson learned. |

And 90% of those stupid laws actually have a story behind which they were made, as stupid as they may be. | You don't have to violate the law in order to know it's stupid. Let's start with my favorite, red-light cameras. Here's an idea that was sold to the public as a safety measure, when in reality, it had everything to do with money and little, if anything, to do with safety.
There's a reason Virginia, Texas, California, etc. turned OFF certain cameras; it's been publically disclosed that the cost of maintaining those units exceeded the revenue being generated by them and, as such, they turned them OFF.
Now, if that's there for SAFETY, it's good for the public and funds should be allocated to such unit(s) to keep them running, yes? Did they do that? Hell no. They shut them down. When this was implemented, we were told this would significantly decrease the number of accidents (which it most often DIDN'T--rear-ended accidents often increased at a rate that exceeded the rate of other accidents, but that is another B.S. story...). Therefore, isn't the government risking people's lives by turning off these cameras?
Answer? ABSOLUTELY NOT. They knew that it was there for revenue generating purposes, little else. Yeah, they won't tell you that publically, but that's the reality. The proof is in the pudding.
And that leads me directly to my point: If a government agency wants to raise revenue, they should raise taxes. There should be NO OTHER RECOURSE for the government to raise revenue. All other laws/fines should be to discourage/encourage certain types of behavior, nothing else. Yes, while the end result is the government receiving cash, there IS a significant difference between the two.
And it doesn't stop there...there's a reason the feds, for decades, kept the 55MPH national speed limit law...and it had NOTHING to do with safety, nor saving fuel. Insurance companies and governmental agencies made bundles of cash from bogus speed tickets and they damn well knew it.
Front license plates? Same B.S. story. That's there for no other reason than collecting either fines from not having them or to help the really cool red-light cameras do their thing. If front license plates were so important for public safety, why don't all 50 states have a requirement for them?
Or, here's another...out-of-state residents that move to CA now only have 30 days to report their move and get everything in order. If they don't, they get fined. Think this has nothing to do about helping fix CA deficits???
It's a joke... |

This illustrates my point exactly. Traffic laws should exist to make the roads safer, NOT to provide a consistent form of revenue for the government. And, make no mistake about it, insurance companies (like those asshats at Geico) not only suport this, hell, Geico issues them radar/lidar guns for Christ's sake!! |

I get what you're saying, but I'm fine with it the way it is now. Go ahead, raise fines for running red lights or speeding. I've got a clean record and plan to keep it that way. I'd be pissed if my taxes were raised when I knew the alternative was increasing traffic citation fines. |

Let’s get a couple things really clear here, never once did you hear me say one thing about military or people who serve this country. Law enforcement on the other hand is not and nothing close to military. It is just another job that happens to be taken advantage of by most that go into that field. Don’t sit behind a computer and hide behind the whole "oh you’re not patriotic and disrespectful of our countries servants." bullshit.... I have many friends and family members who have served and been deployed for as long as 12-18 months at a time over the last few years. I treat them with every bit of respect that they disserve and openly thank them and show my appreciation in every way that I can. You have blinders on and think that LE is out there for the greater good and that’s simply not true. That may be the idea behind the thing but it isn’t what is done. There are a couple good cops out there but for the most part most of them are greedy corrupt power hungry *******s. It doesn’t take a man to hide behind a badge and a gun. Once again I saw not a single person bring up any military or disrespectful thing about what any of our soldiers and sailors do. You are the one who is disrespecting your country by bringing that up and putting words into our mouths. |
