Re: 5 hour spark plug change

What brand wires & plugs did you go with? GM/ACDelco OE? If the wires were aftermarket, how was the fitment?

On the flipside, my Town Car is too quiet. In a parking lot or some of the back roads near my home, pedestrians and cyclists can't hear me coming and get in the way. boom.

Re: 5 hour spark plug change

Its a pain in the ass if you don't have a boot removal tool when changing the OEM Red AC Delco wires. Once those metal jackets are off, your next tune up shouldn't take that long at all.

Removal of the battery and the 3 zip ties that hold the wiring harness to the fuse box on the passenger side helped out a lot. I ended up zip tying the harness to the upper portion of the battery bracket to keep it from falling while i was working. As for the dipstick getting into the way, it only took a very slight bend to get enough clearance.

The most time consuming part was getting the old boots and shields off. The best way that I found was to rotate the boots on the plugs a little to loosen them up and that wasn't very easy to do since there wasn't enough room. Even with a spark plug boot puller and channel locks, it was a bear at times. But the new boots with a light coating of dielectric grease should dramatically ease removal if I need to do it again.

I installed Bosch Platinum ir Fusion plugs and Magnecor wires. I've always had great results with these brands in the past on a variety of cars and trucks. Due to the fact that they're new and the originals had just over 52k miles on them, the mighty LS6 lights more quickly and is more responsive.

I may remove the battery next time I need to do this. In this instance, I removed the coils. I did reuse the metal sleeves though. I'm hoping that they don't pose a problem next time.

Re: 5 hour spark plug change

Get B&B's like bigjim said.....it only takes an hour tops to change plugs. Get one (if yo can even get em seperately) coolsox for the drivers side rear wire though. It just touches the header tube.

Removing those sleeves were the biggest gripe especially if you don't have the proper tools. I didn't reuse mine since they didn't fit over the Taylor Thundervolt 50s. I was actually thinking about removing the coils because there are plenty of sharp points around the coil brackets but I managed to survive. I will do that next time however thats not for another 30k lol

Once you get a feel for the sleeves, it's not that bad. A set of channel locks and a lot of wiggling...

Re: 5 hour spark plug change

remove the coil packs, it only takes 5 minutes and it'll let you get your fingers down there.

and to get the job done right you've got to get your fingers in there.

wait, wut?
