Water in trunk lid

Remove this ad
Doesn't rain too often down here in the Sunshine State, but last weekend while I was in Atlanta there was a mini monsoon. I went to put my suitcase in my trunk and when lifted the lid (damn trunk hydraulic is a joke), I heard some water splash around inside the lid.

I did a few up downs on the lid to see if it would run out the holes but only a small amount did, but it still sounded like there were a few ounces in there. I drove it back to JAX thinking that the remainder would work it's way out. When I got home I could still hear it in there when I got my bags out. I went through the process of removing all the plugs and both the large rubber stoppers and repeated a few up/downs. I got most of it out.

This hasn't happened before and it doesn't rain here this often for me to know if it is common. You guys getting water in yours? I don't want that lead weight a lid rusting from the inside forcing me to go carbon fiber.

On another note, I was able to pull .96 Gs on an on-ramp, so maybe the extra weight helped.

Re: Water in trunk lid

my 05 has those problems too, i guess its normal. my trunk Hydraulics barely work and i noticed water in my left reverse lens. There has gotta be a way to waterproof the rear bezel..

Shiz, I didn't look in the lenses. I don't want water in there. I wash my car every week and I haven't ever heard/felt water in the lid before.

I am going to pop the rear bezel and put some weather stripping in there, if possible.

Re: Water in trunk lid

Had the same problem.

They say it is a bad seal at the trunk mounted light.

Light in the trunk? Or lights on the trunk?

Re: Water in trunk lid

Found these using this crazy search thing I keep hearing about.

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ter-trunk.html

In this thread Jon posted his bezel removed with some weather stripping around the edge.

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...-out-rear.html

Anyone know if that stopped the water from coming?

Re: Water in trunk lid

I had the same thing, the dealer didn't hear it upon bringing it in. I was my car everyweek, and it doesn't happen all the time. Another quirk to the V.

Ya, I just found your thread:

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...trunk-lid.html

I can see why newbs don't use the search, I used "water in trunk lid" as my search parameter and didn't get those threads till the 4th and 6th pages even though each thread that I found had those words in the title and in the tags.

I didn't look in the spare tire well, I don't have anything of value in there, but I wonder if it collected water. I'm going to pull the bezel this weekend and put some weather stripping in. I will post my process and results and then hopefully the search will pull this thread up and all answers can be found.

Thanks guys.

Re: Water in trunk lid

I have had water in my "spare tire" well twice before...
The weird part was, the carpet and surrounding area were completely dry, both times!
It was more water than condensation could have produced, I'd say a cup or more. The trunk was empty, so it's not like something spilled and the well is a solid plastic piece so water didnt come up from underneath...
I check there after every car wash now and I haven't had an issue again for quite some time.
