Looking to have some fun with the wife's new car, did't know if anyone has done any of these "solo" events that are set up in large parking lots, and/or if its worth my time in the two ton tessy. I'm not sure if I want to get my a$$ kicked by a nurse in a Miata.

Re: SCCA solo

well, you'd be in a different class than a nurse in a Miata. But, yeah, these things do well. search for threads on this...

If you've never done it before you'll get your ass kicked by pretty much everthing, so if that's a concern then you probably shouldn't go.

However, if you want to have a lot of fun in a car, and get yourself hooked on spending lots of money to have even more fun in a car, then auto-x is a good way to start. The V is too heavy with too-narrow tires to really be competitive, but it is still fun and will teach you a lot about how the car behaves at the limit.

Re: SCCA solo

This seems like it'd be fa load of fun and much less likely to encounter some wet grass then a concrete barrier at 50 MPH. I wouldn't care if I came in dead last (which would absolutely be the most likely outcome).

Hey, Don, if you do this, make sure to take some pics of you doing it ... and of some nurses, too.

Re: SCCA solo

I did like the idea of running over cones when it's pushing like a dump truck, instead of the grass and concrete wall.

Re: SCCA solo

I Solo my V. I ran it a few times last year on street tires after I broke my regular racecar and this year I'm actually prepping the car for the E Street Prepared class where I'll be up against the pony cars and WRXs. At the local level the V can be competitive but at national events it's just way too heavy. With that said I have signed up for the National Tour event in Cecil, GA in March to have some fun.

Try it out, you might have fun.

Re: SCCA solo

The stock V will fall into the F class in SCCA Solo. You will find mustangs and other big iron in that class. If you can afford it buy some wheels and sticky autocross tires you will have even more fun.

If you are ever in the DC area you can run at our big track at FedEx stadium. We generally have about 260 cars run at each event. The F class national champion runs here so you can learn a lot from him.

Re: SCCA solo

F stock is owned by the Shelby GT until there is a rules change and put it where it belongs in ESP, if it hasn't already been done as I haven't checked in a while. i do AX mine between 15-20 times a year and generally run with OVR in Columbus, OH, WOR in Dayton, and MVSCC in Dayton and am usually fairly competitive unless a Shelby shows up.
