Last night, rush hour, constant speed of 70 mph, level terrain, all vital signs were normal, 15 seconds from onset to that huge billow of white smoke. Connecting rod through the block and oil pan.

Re: Catastrophic Engine Failure

Sorry for your loss, good time to upgrade to a 400+ci stroker, I bet given the economy there are so great deals to be had.

Mods to motor, tuner, etc...? Sh!t does not just happen, and if you do not post for legal (or warranty) reasons, its all good.

Given your facts I would take it to the best dealer in the area, be polite, and see if they can do anything. Modern motors are just not supposed to do that.

Re: Catastrophic Engine Failure

wow thats horrible man, I feel for you. I would make Cadillac figure out what caused the failure at their expense....Thats just unacceptable on a stock, taken car of 50,000 mile luxury performance car, warranty or no warranty.

I've heard of BMWs doing this, but not a V ... at least, not under the conditions you describe. These motors should go at least 150k under moderate driving without a hickup, then you'd be looking at a timing chain or something.

Hope all goes well for you.

Re: Catastrophic Engine Failure

Boy that sure is sad. It doesn't exactly "instill" confidence..... stock motor and all. You don't have a 16yr old kid that takes it out like Ferris Bueller do you?

If the dealer totally stiffs you I'd get a motor upgrade like mentioned above and strip your motor down and part it out.... you got a LS2.... I might be able to take some parts off your hands Let us know and I'm sure the guys here will "help you out"
