| Re: Catastrophic Engine Failure Crap, it's been 6 months since I logged into this forum. Oh wait, that coincides perfectly with my moving to Germany. Anyway, considering I was out of warranty and GM's financial situation, after several attempts, I gave up and installed a used stock engine with 21k miles. I'll post pix of engine carnage some day. I don't know the sequence of events, but the connecting broke just below the wrist pin. Naturally, the valves went too. The rod bolts are all in tact.
No, I have not yet been to the Nurburgring...but it's on the list. MX ridng and racing is taking precedence. Unfortunately the V sits at home waiting for my return some time next year....which is when I'll do a proper metallurgical analysis of what happened. It would be a blast to run it around over here. All my German colleagues know very well what the '09 V accomplished on the ring. So for the time being, I'm reduced to running an '08 BMW 525 2.5 TDI around. Not a bad ride, but no V. It takes a while to wind it up, but I frequently run down the bahn at 150+ mph. Top speed, slightly down hill, is around 260 kph, or about 160 mph. Curious, GM tried to convince me I abused the vehicle by driving too fast. An odd accusation for a vehicle they advertise as 0 to 60 in 4.6 secs. I wonder what BMW would say if my little diesel blew after my near daily 150 mph+ redline driving. |
