When swapping the motor, swap the wifey too, JK. Good luck in whatever you do, and try the 'down and out' routine with the dealer.

I was thinking that's the likely cause considering how quickly it went. Anybody have any actual experience from an autopsy to confirm a similar failure? Seems something like a spun bearing, head gasket leaking coolant for a hydraulic lock etc., would've had a longer warning period. How about a dropped valve? Been there done that before. Engines goes from purring to a wrist pin going up and down inside a cylinder in a few nano-seconds.

Re: Catastrophic Engine Failure

About 10 years ago I missed a power shift at the drag strip in my Mustang. If you’ve ever done that before, the RPM goes through the roof. It’s makes you cringe, but I went on to make two more passes anyway. A few weeks later I decided to tear down the motor and sent the pistons out to be fly cut. I noticed that I had two bent valves, but the pistons looked OK, so I thought.

The machinist called me the next day and said when he when to cut one of the pistons it came apart. (Still have it) Six months later I had a roller lifter holder come apart on the way back from Potrero. It turned sideways in the bore and the cam came around and wacked it into a thousand pieces. Had to have the car towed all the way back to San Diego.

I really don’t miss that car.

I feel for your loss though.

Re: Catastrophic Engine Failure

That sucks.I had mine blow at 29000 miles took me 2and ahalf months fighting w/ dealer and cadi rep.The #1 piston rod went through the block and i was shifting from 3 to 4 at like 5000 rpm the dealer tried to say it was because I only had 7000 miles on my tires and they were bald so it was improper use of the car.BS!
