You can safely drive about 76 - 77 mph on the Ohio Turnpike. Anything over that is risking a ticket, and they do have air patrols as well as cars. As far as cool things to check out, South Bend might be cool if you're a college football fan, Toledo has the newly completed I-280 bridge over the Maumee which has a single pier with glass walls anchoring the suspension cables across, and closer to Cleveland, the Cuyahoga Valley is very cool for scenic driving down toward Canton. Hope you have decent weather! |

It took about 14 hours in each direction and with gas prices being so cheap, it was actually less expensive than roundtrip airline tickets for 2.

I went to an SHO barbecue in Chicago in August, left Friday night and was back early Monday morning.
To me, a road trip is going coast to coast or tip to tip. Either that or doing a loop of some sort over 3,000 miles. I bought my V in May of '04. In August, I took the V from Boston to Niagara Falls to Ontario back into Michigan across the ferry into Wisconsin to North Dakota to the Badlands, Wall Drug, Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower to Beartooth Pass, MT to Yellowstone to the Tetons to Oregon to Mt. Ranier to Seattle to Crater Lake to the Redwoods to the Bay Area to Sonoma to Death Valley to Vegas to the Hoover Dam to the Grand Canyon to Tulsa to Chicago to the NFL HOF in Canton to home.
THAT's a road trip.... |

The wife and I are going to do a drive sometime this summer and may do Route 66, may do the Black Hills to Yellowstone, may do New England but I am now thinking down to Memphis-Houston-New Orleans cause I have lived in all 3 and my wife has never been and I have not had a genuine shrimp po-poy in damn near 10 years. |

Maui. how long did you live here?...2 weeks?
we have you covered on BBQ. I'll post my top 20 list I compiled a while back if I can find it. Mud Island is very nice, but you are just a mile south of the shit ponds. It stinks most of the time. You are also just a mile west of Deathville, aka North Memphis. Come across that bridge to the mainland at night=DEAD.
I agree about New Orleans. I go there a couple times a year, just to eat food and tear up Bourbon. Its a good escape when you need it. |
