When the clutch is fully released in nuetral and coasting, RPM's sometimes race away between 1200-2800 range. Happens quite frequently on a steep mountain grade descents. When I push in the clutch, it goes back to idle. It does it with AC on or not. Seems to happen at any operating temp, just sort of random. Once I come to a stop of less than 3mph or so it goes back to regular idle. Anybody know what the problem might be? Your guys'es input would be greatly appreciated as always! |

Looks like you may have a small air leak at the point the TB meets the intake manifold...OR your worse case is because you ported the TB the cracker / follower need tunin...
At idle when you turn on your accessories, just it also surge or only durin motion? If only during motion it is your Cracker / follower
Try also revvin over 2500rpm at a stand still and see how it drops back to idle. |

The ported TB is just the cheapy off of EBAY from that place in Oregon. Thanks again guys, now I just need to look up what cracker/follower is (not to inclined on the fuel delivery side, or any side for that matter). |

If you insist on getting rid of it, you need to adjust the Adaptive Idle Airflow parameters and/or idle spark timing at idle. I adjusted the Idle Proportional Airflow for coastdown and cured most of the issue. Since you ported the TB, you changed the airflow and need to adjust the parameters to match. The rpm's are dropping below the desired idle and the computer is compensating with the Adaptive Proportional airflow and now you actually have more airflow than the computer thinks. It's really simple if you have tuning software or take it and have a tune done somewhere.

At idle the vehicle doesnt need any power but once in motion the engine needs a little more airflow to keep the engine from dying...So the Throttle plate compensates slightly so more air gets in to keep the rpm above 750/500...
But i would also listen to PISNUOFF. He has you going in the right direction...I forgot the idle air correction on the side...I swapped my stock tb for a LS2...Less calibration, less headaches, so i thought.... | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
