Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

I'm taking my car in next week for a few things and I need to dump the rear diff fluid...I'm assuming most would recommend doing it yourself. Never done it before but it looks simple. Anyone recommend the dealer incase of any issues after the fact?

Also, I have no rear seal leaks but there is a open recall on my car? The dealer recommends doing it. Should I wait till there is a problem? Thoughts?

Thanks...

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

At the risk of being labelled Captain Obvious why not have them replace the rear seal and flush the fluid as part of the recall service? That's what my local dealer did. Didn't cost me a dime

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

find lilreds dealer FAST!! there is not a way for the dealer to do the flush while doing the pinion seal and claiming the additional fluid and labor under warranty, so if in fact they did do it they would have to had absorbed the cost, if that is the case god bless them they are ok in my book. unfortunetly for myself and my dealer i would charge the customer...not the entire cost because the seal was getting done, it would be a substantial decrease in price, probably half normal cost

Captian Obvious here tried that...that's where the $132.00 comes in.

This is nuts. My local guy charged me $30. I did have my own RP gear oil.

In all fairness we were having a whining issue with the rear as well so that was the first troubleshooting step. Didn't work so we are now scheduled to have a new diff installed.

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

Alright so I will dump the diff fluid myself!

What about the rear seal? Should I have it replaced per the recall even though it's currrently fine? I don't want additional problems from the dealer.

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

If your under the recall I say get it done....if you don't get it done you have no ammo god forbid you do get into an accident due to the rear locking up and it being found that the rear seal was the cause leaking all your fluid and locking the diff.......happened to mine...way before the recall even came out...never locked up on me, but you could smell her burning...get it done...then dump your fluid.

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

I got a new serpentine belt and a trans service for $139, all I provided was my car.

You need a new dealer.

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

Part of the recall is to replace diff fluid and add additive they can not replace seal with out loosing the diff fluid. my dealer did not put additive in until they got it ordered but all new fluid and additive and seal under recall no charge and issued rental car for the day to do recall. if recal not done get it done just make sure they put additive in. they can read the recall and parts required. fluid and additive listed.

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

My dealer told me that those fluids listed on the recall were just for "top off". He may be mistaken? I haven't had it done yet because they had to order parts.

Re: Read Diff Flush - Dealer Cost = $132.00

maybe you are correct and i just assumed full drain. i'm not sure what the full capacity of diff is. they were listed so i assumed it would be a full drain to replace possible leaking gasket and new refill. sorry if i was wrong.
