I was there, and spritzed some on my rims too, and it took 2 days of track brake dust right off. All while being gentle on the painted rims. WIN-WIN.

Re: Griot's Order arrived

I use Speed Shine like its water. Sometimes daily as long as its only dust and or pollen on the car. The Best in Show wax is a PITA to get off once it dries but if you use a spritz of the spray on wax after it dries it works BEAUTIFULLY.

Griots wheel cleaner requires some elbow grease but that is because it isnt nearly as abrasive as those spray and forget brands. Treat the paint on your rims the way you would the paint on your car.

I like the interior cleaner because it doesnt leave that silicon based shine. The only non-Griots product I use is tire black because I do like more shine there than the vinyl and rubber cleaner gives.

The detailers handbook is also a wonderful product. I think I have at least 3 dozen microfiber rags in the garage now after reading it. Its all that touches my paint.

So what's your technique? I have a weeks worth of brake dust on the wheels, spray on the wheel cleaner and let it sit for a minute or so...spray it off with hose and not much comes off...I end up cleaning the wheels manually.

And yes it's the Griots Wheel Cleaner. I bent over to purchase a handful of their products.

Griots wheel cleaner IS NOT a spray on-spray off cleaner. It does require you to actually bend over. If you are using the 3-finger glove your wheels should come clean quite easily. My rims are chromed so Im not sure how the stockers react to the cleaner but I am pretty sure they are painted, and as such should be treated like the rest of the paint on the car. Those other wheel cleaners are essentialy brake cleaner in a spray bottle and I sure as hell dont want that stuff on a painted part of my car.

hahahahahaha Sorry.

But MauiV's post is spot on. I have a boar's hair brush for wheels that I bought from Griot's. It works perfectly.

Re: Griot's Order arrived

Spray on, hose off wheel cleaners are aggressive as hell and will etch your wheels, rotors and calipers over time. Griot's wheel cleaner loosens all the grime and dust, but still requires *gasp* a tiny bit of wiping it all off. I have a cheapo wash mitt that I use only for my wheels. Rinse the wheels, spray with Griot's, then wash them off with the mitt and rinse.

Think of it this way: Lava soap will get any grease and oil off your hands, but still requires you to agitate it with a brush. You could spray your hands down with acetone and rinse them off with no work, but that would probably be a little dangerous, no? Anything that is that caustic isn't going anywhere near my car.
