Dyno'd My Car Today

Remove this ad
Well, Rick (StealthV) did a sight-unseen tune for me following my maggie install last summer. However, due to some injector differences, he really needed me to take some data and send them back to him for confirmation and final tweaking. However, he didn't bank on me being a total idiot, and I just couldn't get him the data. 'Nuff said.

Well, the car has always seemed to run okay though I've had one of those annoying codes, so today I bit the bullet and took it to Wheel To Wheel Performance in Troy just north of Detroit. They do a lot of custom car tuning/building/testing and have one of five Mustang dynos in the world of this particular size (darn thing was HUGE!). Anyway, Rich Gala is their tuning guru, and he started out by doing a baseline on my car with Rick's tune in it. The result was 465 RWHP! ... on a Mustang dyno!

After some tweaks here and there due to not having a Magnavolt and with the big injectors (Rich really knows his stuff ), he did another run and got 472 RWHP at 6600 RPM and it looks like the torque ran 411 RWTQ from 3900 to 5300 RPM and was over 400 from 3400 to 5900 RPM ... flat as a pancake. I'm almost ready for Summit Point now!

Just wanna say, "Thanks," to Rich Gala at Wheel To Wheel for doing a great job and Rick at StealthV for a superb first tune (and putting up with my ignorance)!

Re: Dyno'd My Car Today

Those are very good numbers. When I had my Maggie put on (with the Magnuson tune), best was RWHP of 446 and Torque of 423. Dyno runs were done on a Dynojet. Had Rick do a tune for me later, but haven't had it dynoed again.

I wonder how many other Maggied Vs will be at Summit Point?

Re: Dyno'd My Car Today

Wow...and that's with the 2.8 pulley? I'm running the 2.6 pulley and got 480/445. I guess the pulley just adds more torque (and lower in the rpm range too).

Okay, and I've got an interesting bit of news. Rich at Wheel To Wheel turns out to have been Florian's college roomate. Yup. Claims he knows all the dirt on Florian, though I didn't ask him about any. 'Tis a small world.

Awesome numbers Randy. With a conservative powetrain loss of 17%, that about 570bhp at the flywheel. Better than an 09V and in a lighter car as well. I'm saving my money and buying a Maggie. Speaking of light, do you have to weigh your car first before you run it on a Mustang? Seems I read somewhere that the Mustang accounts for aerodynamic and rolling resistance forces on the car so an accurate weight is needed for a good dyno which is not required on a Dyno Jet.

Re: Dyno'd My Car Today

Those are great numbers. Mine made about the same, 455hp/447tq on a mustang dyno with a 2.75 pulley.

Damn purdy, now crack open the engine, stick a cam in there and get an additional 30/30, AND piss off the neighbors to the next degree.

Rich had access to information about the CTS-V in order to correctly and accurately load the dyno during the setting up. He sure knew his way around the whole procedure. Nice guy, too ... real down to earth.

The way my wife has been talking lately (saving money, etc), even a 2011 V seems a bit remote. Maybe now I won't be so tempted.

Re: Dyno'd My Car Today

Nice runs Randy! Where is w2w? I'm in troy this weekend anyway and would like to see what a n/a w/ tune/intake makes on the same one. There is another shop in Troy, it used to be Payn, that has a mustang too BTW.

W2W is in Troy south off 14 Mile Rd east of I-75 on Industrial. Guys on ls1tech<dot>com said they were the best in Detroit area. Give 'em a call.

On their dyno, you back onto a lift, and it goes up to about chest high, then you back the car onto the dyno itself. Far superior in all respects compared to the DynoJet I was on last May in Lansing. They actually did driveability checks on it. Rich improved my 70 MPH cruise fuel economy 1-2 MPG, also ... not sure you can do that on a DynoJet.

BTW, I had called and talked to Livernois Motorsport in Dearborn, too. Just got the runaround. Guy just wanted to sell me a MagnaVolt and sparkplugs and wouldn't even call me back when he said he would.

I forgot to mention that Rick's tune kept all autoignition ("knock") from occurring, too. That was a big fear I had prior to yesterday.

Re: Dyno'd My Car Today

Nice numbers Randy. Maybe this year we can get together and BS a little before the Dream Cruise. I'm glad you are finally able to get her straight and ready to go.

Talk to you later.
